Default Consumer Reports Ratings for WRX's 2013!

I just got my issue of Consumer Reports Buying Guide 2013 today in the mail and I flipped to the back chapters on the best and worst used cars. I'm thinking, I just bought a 2007 Subaru WRX Lmtd and was hoping the ratings for my year for higher than average. Here's the results on a 2007, 2008 & 2009 (which was on the "Used Cars To Avoid" Subaru section Impreza WRX/STi '08, no other years & also received a 1 out of 5 on the Reliability Test). That just seemed odd considering every Subaru I have heard of never had any of the issues described below. The ratings were based on 2011 Annual Car Reliability Survey with over 1.3 million responses on they're experience with every particular year. I'll include '07 '08 & '09 to compare.

Engine Major ----------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 2
Engine Minor ----------- 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 4
Engine Cooling --------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 5 ---------- 2009 = 5
Transmission Major ---- 2007 = 1 ---------- 2008 = 1 ---------- 2009 = 3
Transmission Minor ---- 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 4 ---------- 2009 = 5
Drive System ---------- 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 5
Fuel System ------------ 2007 = 1 ---------- 2008 = 1 ---------- 2009 = 3
Electrical ---------------- 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 4
Climate System -------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 2 ---------- 2009 = 5
Suspension ------------- 2007 = 3 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 5
Brakes ------------------ 2007 = 3 ---------- 2008 = 2 ---------- 2009 = 4
Exhaust ----------------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 4 ---------- 2009 = 5
Paint/Trim -------------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 1 ---------- 2009 = 1
Body Integrity ---------- 2007 = 2 ---------- 2008 = 2 ---------- 2009 = 1
Body Hardware -------- 2007 = 5 ---------- 2008 = 4 ---------- 2009 = 5
Power Equipment ------ 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 3 ---------- 2009 = 5
Audio System ---------- 2007 = 4 ---------- 2008 = 5 ---------- 2009 = 4
Used Car Verdict ------- 2007 = 3 ---------- 2008 = 1 ---------- 2009 = 3

Really I just wanted to see if any of these area's especailly 2007 are pretty accurate and what everyone thinks of it. (I'm a little worried about a 1 on Transmission Major! ) Hope everyone likes it...

The thread title led me to expect there'd be some new info about the 2013 WRXs in here.

It should've been: "2013 Consumer Reports Ratings for Old WRXs!"

The problem with cars in this demographic is that reliability can be wide ranging. It's not like a toyota camry where the majority of buyers drive them at or near normal speeds. With a WRX you have some buyers that baby their cars most of the time and only romp on it occasionally but somewhat conservatively. Then you have drivers that constantly drive like they stole it, ripping through gears as fast as they can.

^people that drive like that are the reason I'd never buy a used wrx unless I personally knew the owner:-/

I put zero credibility in CR...I used to subscribe and when they did a test on something I was very familiar with I usually disagreed with their assessments. I could tell in some cases the reviewer knew nothing about the product they were testing

I agree to an extent, but i wouldn't fully discredit them. It's true the writers are not experts on the products they're comparing. But they do conduct some scientific like real world testing like MPG for instance that's very valuable information to have. No one else is doing it and compiling a data chart, which i like to see.

When i was in college and sold electronics, people would bring in their consumer reports magazines and purchase directly from there. For instance they rated a crappy JVC tv higher then a better Sony TV and the deciding factor was the remote control. They rated the JVC remote higher because it had tons of buttons that could do all kinds of things. The problem is sony's did it's consumer research and found that most buyers are confused by all the buttons that look the same. Sony purposely takes off as many buttons as possible, makes the most common buttons larger and color coded to stand out. The end user is much happier. Consumer reports was very flawed in their evaluation.

Bad paint - check
Poor body integrity (squeaks, rattles) - check

I'm surprised they were generous enough to give 1's for those as I would score them 0.0.

The '08 Imprezas had no paint on the aft section of the rocker panels. .. and the paint that was originally on the rest of the car was subject to flake off if you looked at it funny.

Sorry for misleading you! I should've clarified it was on the '07-'09. Thanks for everyone's replies! Some of those I wondered about myself.
