hey guys, i'm looking to see if anyone can help me out. Recently my clutch pedal has been hesitant to engage. It is not shaking as I engage the pedal and is not any harder to engage than normal, but when I engage the pedal it does not feel smooth at all. It usually happens after "getting on it" and then goes away after 15 min or so. today when I left my car after eating and cam back to it, the problem was still occurring. Another helpful piece of info is that after engaging the clutch many times very quickly it goes away. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

yes there is a squeak and has been taking place since the first week i got the car. I took it backed to Subaru when it was completely stock and they greased some stuff up and the squeak went away for a week or so but came back.

yes, after pumping it multiple times it eventually goes back to normal and smooth but what boggles me is why it continues to come back. it is a reoccurring issue every 3-4 days

My clutch started to feel a little spongy after my welds broke, but if I pumped it it didnt help. Some times randomly it would feel fine, then the next day back to spongy. Hopefully this helps! |

Since this is the "Warranty Issues & SOA Problems" forum, have you taken it to a Subaru dealer to see what they have to say?

Mine did this. It was a gritty feeling right?
Mine hasn't done this for a awhile. It would do it right after getting on it and then go away with a few pumps. I don't know what it was but it went away. |

2011 hatch here, same issue. clutch pedal starts to feel spongy and erratic in motion, but not in engagement after some fairly spirited driving. a few short pumps make it go away for varying degrees of time. I've had AZP do a full bleed and a swap for some better fluid and that seems to have made a huge difference tho. it seems like a prevalent issue. mine also squeeks on the way up, and sporatically squeeks and clicks/hangs up/snags on the way down almost at the end of travel (maybe the last half inch)

I had the same issue on my 2011. First happened at 29 k now back at 45 k. Listen to the car as it idles. If you hear a noise , push the clutch and see if it goes away. There's an issue with the throw out bearing and the type of grease they used that worn out prematurely

My pedal gets spongy sometimes. Few pumps and it goes away, comes back later. Is this your same problem?

I actually just picked my car up from a squealing clutch issue. They replaced the part between the pedal and clutch master that pushes the fluid (can't remember the damn name) anything it was something like that. Basically the lubrication dried up as wore out the part. My clutch pedal feels way better now that its fixed and I don't feel as clunky when I shift.
Sorry for my noob terminology but just thought I would offer some insight as to my similar problem! |

I filed it with SOA and the safety transportation website. I "Unofficially" spoke with the Knoxville, TN dealer and they said that they could fix it but as soon as they would call it in that SOA would send a tech and they would deny the claim due to the clutch being replaced with a non OEM clutch (ACT). The dealer master mechanic said that this was a problem with the 08+'s and unfortunately without SOA approving the fix, they wouldn't be able to fix it without charging me ($120/hour; 6 hour job). He said that regardless of the type of clutch and being that it is a hydraulic clutch, it should not pull/break the welds and cause the firewall to fail.
