HAHA, great minds think alike. I've been debating doing it since I went front mount. I have most of the parts. Just need the cooler and lines.

Not gonna lie, that's gonna be super badass. But I just love the clean look of no scoop.

I noticed you have no transmission mod info in your first post, and clearly the stock drivetrain would explode with 400hp. Would you mind sharing your drivetrain set up?

Stock with ACT SSHD clutch. Tranny is holding great.

I think the new paint makes the scoop look even more aggressive. Really makes it jump out at you. No way I would go scoop-less based on looks alone but functionality on top of that is just a bonus.

That's awesome! I guess I can't use the "It's my daily" excuse to avoid power mods anymore.

I seriously love your car. I hope you don't mind if I steal a couple ideas later on haha

I don't. I built this car for mountain runs, road courses and DD duties. I always heal toe and rev match. The car is never launched.

So I started work on the trunk last night...

First, the setup you see here is really just a proof of concept. I was hoping that I could just use MDF for the subwoofer enclosure and build around that...but I am just losing too much airspace under the enclosure. It ends up making the floor higher than I want and I don't like being inefficient with space. It looks like I am going to have to learn how to make a fiberglass enclosure after all. This will, however, give me a chance to test the staging in the car before diving head first into the deep end, so it isn't a complete waste of time.

Let me start by saying that this is not the prettiest box I have ever made. I am almost embarrassed to post pictures of it. I think after my brain went "this is not the final product" quality took a hike. That said, there are four things this box does do.
  1. It fits perfectly.
  2. It is exactly .8 cubic feet
  3. It is sealed without any leaks
  4. It uses the factory spare tire mount to secure it to the floor which I kind of thought was cool.

I ended up using more duct sealant around the mount and now the driver is almost impossible to push in the box is sealed so well.

Here is my new JL Audio 13TW5v2-4 in the enclosure.

I have always wanted a hatch with an upward firing sub ever since a friend of mine had a Civic with that setup back in the 90's.

Thanks man. The audio system is about to start getting a little nutty. I think I might have gone overboard this time...

Why? Looks or does it make it sound different in some way that's desirable (to you, at least)?

Good point. Can you tell my wife that?

Several things really. When the bass comes off the glass and directly to the front of the vehicle, it actually takes less power and cone surface area to make more db as it has a lot less reflection and zero obstruction. On the SQ side, it is easy to tune to really get that front stage impact and the sound quality is great.

Subwoofer setups are generally in the back of cars and due to the size of the wave length...direct, on axis facing is not necessary. This setup will have just a little more crispness to it without have to use a metric ton of power.
