I watched highlights from the 2013 wrc sweden rally a few days ago, there were a couple subaru hatches being driven in "WRC2"? not exactly sure what that is but i was just glad to see a subaru at that level, privateer or otherwise.

^^Probably a R4 car. They still run against the S2000 cars in WRC. That or maybe a privateer team. I think Mads Ostberg drove a privately entered Impreza S12 in finland awhile back before he got a factory ride.

If you guys wanna see some of the older WRC cars still competing (Subaru and other's) you should watch some rallying from the Netherlands, here this will warm your heart a bit haha:

They also get used extensively in Irish tarmac rally, I can try and dig some vid up for ya later.

WRC is really only a small fragment of rallying in relative terms, but I think it is considered by most still as the "apex" of the rally world. There is still tons of amazing rally action (much of which involves Subaru's) all over the globe though, so no reason to despair haha

Stupid kids.

Don't forget where you came from Subaru!
Heritage doesnt just disappear. Toyota has had a much better racing pedrigree than Subaru ever had. They have competed in many different types of racing and when serious about it they were dominant, that includes their efforts in the WRC before they stopped funding teams. Unfortunately they decided to go the route of the family brand and ditch their enthusiasts.

But every once in a while they bring something out to remind us all what they used to be like. The days of sporty cars is nearly dead and gone for Toyota but it seems like they produce one once in a blue moon just because they can.

Supposedly 2018 will be the year the Supra comes back (skeptical about that). Currently they have the GT86. Some can argue those limited edition Series 8 Scions TCs are an option but if you truly want anything sporty from Toyota you need to go with their older models or a lexus if the FR-S isn't your cup of tea.

I honestly would stick with their MR series if I truly wanted to build a track car. Everyone raves about the new FR-S but it seems as if they forgot that there was a convertable that was lighter but less flashy looking that pulled the same performance numbers less than 10 years ago. The MR-S was a boring looking little convertable but go to any autox or track day and watch how quick their times are. They were praised for their incredible handling and were being compared to the Miata and S2K in that department. All you really needed in them was a retuned 2ZZ celica GTS swap with a 6 speed and the car was complete, unfortunately toyota didn't deem it necessary to do what in the end would have been the icing on the cake.

Cars to look up.
Supra
MR2/MR-S
RWD Corollas/ FWD GT (Jspec) and XRS models
2000GT
RWD/AWD Celicas
Last gen Celica GTS (one of the best handling FWD cars ever produced)
LFA
IS-F
F Sport models
Soarer
ETC...

They may have almost completely turned their backs on enthusiasts who arent loaded but they do throw us a bone once in a while and what they offered in the past were some incredibly awesome vehicle that if you really want you can probably find.

This is sad news but I can't say that Im not surprised. Subaru has established itself very well with the performance crowd already. Hence why this forum does well and the extensive amount of aftermarket parts are availbale from soo many different vendors around the world. I wish they would still have a factory backed team somewhere in motorsports but times are changing for sure. Rallycross could become promising we'll have to wait and see on crowd numbers and TV ratings with the next season.

I demand a 1.6L Turbo WRX, and a 2.0L Turbo STI all under 3000lbs for 2015! All that with the BRZ should put Subaru back on the map again.
