What year outback?

The short awnser is yes it will, but....the rear diff is more likely then not gonna have t be swapped with the wrx trans, there are about 6 diffrent variations of gears in these transmissons. Since they are awd the rear diff needs to match the diff in the trans. With that said, I know outbacks generaly have the taller gear sets (my xt has a 4.44 with the 5 speed) and wrx's are either 3.92 or 4.11, don't hold me to that...the automatic outbacks may have the 4.11's but I'm not positive. There are a lot of collective right ups about what's in what if you look around a bit you'll find your awnser, what ever you do, make sure they are matching gear sets, or you'll be replacing another trans really quick.

if the trans has the sport-shift feature, it won't because the computers controlling the 2 trans are different.

This is possible too, again Id need to know what year ob you have, I know my 05 limited has sport shift

I just opened my eyes...son of a beech its amazing what you see when you do...2k leggo's don't have sport shift, I believe wrx's did, so yea unless you wana swap a trans ecu as well as other unknowns your better off finding a more dirrect fitting trans

the 4EAT trans is "physically" the same and should fit.

but like i said, the computer programming/control in the sport-shift version is different. you would also need the interior shift lever/mechanism with the sport-shift "gate" in it if you went that route. i would just find another legacy trans or rebuild the current one.

what are the issues you are having/had?
