I do not live in a PZEV state, should I avoid PZEV Imprezas? Seems like that would have to hurt fuel efficiency.

Unfortunately that appears to be the case.

I do not think that they are in Canada. All the advertising that i have seen seems to indicate that only the legacy and forester come with pzev option.

If non-PZEV is available, take it.
With a 5mt and no pzev I easily beat epa mileage.

PZEV makes no difference. Driving style makes a difference.

I think PZEV may make a difference, but only in that the warmup time is more costly, so for the people with short commutes and a cold start each time it probably will reduce their MPG's.

If I could have bought non-PZEV I probably would have, but at this point it is no longer an option, and my mpg's are just about what the Window Sticker promised for combined mpg's, so my 5 speed pzev is capable of meeting the EPA numbers. If I drove more on the highway, it would probably do even better.

And if I took my snows off, but right now the snow is falling fast and heavy, so honestly, I could give two poops about my mpg's on my drive home today, because I know it will be safe (and a little fun) driving my car home in the snow!

I too have 5mt PZEV and meeting EPA mileage (sometime little better), from the mileage threads it looks like only CVT w/ PZEV are having mileage problem.

Fair enough. This may be true.

Either way I dont think there is any proof that pzev or not makes a difference in mpg. LEtting your car warm up 2 minutes longer everyday would hardly affect overall fuel economy.

Id probably choose non-pzev if i had the choice. (My car is pzev positive)

as of April 2012, all Imprezas are PZEV. I ordered my car 2 days too late to miss the cutoff

Yes, it seems the '12 CVT owners (pre-pzev?) are generally happier with their mpg's.

What's up with "Partially Zero Emission" anyway? Sounds like a ruse...

Mostly air quality. See China.

If you live in a larger urban area then you'd probably care more about it

I'm sure it is another conspiracy theory...

But actually it isn't, it is the spread of California emission standards nationwide, and probably all cars will have to meet both PZEV and improved MPG standards over time (along with lawn mowers and other small engines).
