Me and Predwolf had some fun working together last night.

I just LOVE intercepting bombers.

edit..
Got my IL-2. It knocks planes out of the sky MUCH faster than the ranks before it.
Also completed a historical battle, used the F2A Buffalo, got 3 kills, landed twice. Earned 10k credits and 14k xp!!

Yeah, the IL2 was a huge step up in firepower. I think I'm gonna drop ~$10 on the game. I've gotten a lot of play time already and I don't mind supporting the game.

i've got the IL-2 and the Yak 7B now. Glorious. The game is so much easier now. I think i might be above noob status now too. i'm usually in the top 5 at the end of the round. I haven't topped 5 kills yet though. I get buttloads of assists. I almost never go for the ground targets.
I'm also firmly in the fighter/attacker camp. i can't use a bomber worth dick.

Bombers suck. Attackers are where its at. Ground kills are easy and give you just as much xp/lions as air kills. In a good match I'll get 10+ ground kills and three or four air kills with three attacker planes and one fighter.

Correction: Early bombers suck.

18x250lb bombs will murder any ground units, and running 1000-4000lb bombs will take out the enemy base in a hurry.

In case you guys didn't know, you can damage the enemy base with bombs in the modes where you're not capping airfields. The health of the base in on the marker itself, and it's an instant win and 10k lions(at least) if you destroy it. At Tier 7, I get about 700 lions every time I hit it with 250lb bombs.

Hour and six minutes left of maintenance.

Might hop on for a bit to have some fun, only about 2k XP from the 4000lb bomb on the Wellington.

I played one more game after we stopped, had two guys on my team who wouldn't shut up about how much it costs to buy the next tier of plane. I decided to put on my trolling hat and rile them up about it. Ohhh boy did it work, and I spent 99% of the mission not even paying attention to where I was going - didn't even get shot once.

One of my points was that I don't mind the high cost on entry for buying planes. I really do believe that though, I like developing a bond with certain planes, getting used to them and having fun flying them over getting a new plane every few games. This goes hand-in-hand with the lowered repair costs, I like being able to make a profit every round after repair and rearm costs are factored in while still flying that plane again two minutes later. The whole idea of "die once, choose another country to use after until the free repairs are done" is just not my way of playing.

Anyway, this is what happens when you're a bomber with long flight times. Trolling is just a good way of passing said time, until you have too much fun with it.

How many people are playing with keyboard&mouse instead of a joystick? I am playing with a joystick in 3rd person view and getting my ass handed to me. How are the rest of you playing?

KB+M in third person, jumping to the bomber's sight if I'm dropping them from up high. If I had a joystick, I'd try playing in first person, but first person just isn't a good view if you're playing in anything other than Full Real Battles where everybody else is restricted to it.

Very true. Its nice when they have multiple turrets as well. The Peshka I got with my pack has four. I may switch to the US solely because I want a B-17. The damn thing has like eight turrets!

I'm still in love with the IL-2 and close to getting the IL-2M. After that I'll probably start unlocking fighters.

i'm underwhelmed with the Yak7B. It flies nice enough, but you can't out run lower rank planes with the throttle. After you've bled off speed dogfighting, you can't turn any tighter than a buffalo, which means slowly being picked apart by tiny machine guns.

That's because the Yak 7 was an underpowered dog. Yaks didn't reach awesomeness until the 9, and then the 3 (yes, it's out of order) was pretty much the best dogfighter of the war.

3rd person. Keyboard + mouse. Ugh. You guys should just stick to shooters.

I've been playing flight sims & space sims for the vast majority of my life. I guess I'm still a little burned about Freelancer and that whole controller decision. And as I said earlier this thread, it is painfully obvious (or at least it was a month ago before the patch) when you had someone flying with a mouse in your sights. It was laughably easy at best.

Anyone play with a head tracker? Is it useful? I've got an Track IR 5 I use with iRacing that would be sweet for cockpit flying.

Just need to get my joystick up and running tonight (parts to convert my MS Sidewinder Pro should be here) and give this game a whirl.

Been trying the ol' Sidewinder FFB2 for the last two nights and various views and not liking it. That, and the KB/M people are handing my butt to me. I really want to use the stick, but if the benefit goes to the mouse, I may switch back.

And I watch videos like this one and want to just use the mouse. So much easier to line up shots and remain on target. Unless I just need to reduce the sensitivity of the joystick so it is less twitchy?

I know some of you guys have mentioned Russia as having good planes, but **** that. I've been using Germany, and the Ju 87 is awesome. I'm not particularly good, and I'm not topping the leaderboards with it, but dat goddamn siren.
