Default Stiff Peddal

My 08 impreza has never had a brake change, so this past weekend I jacked the car up to check how bad the pads were. It was kinda hard to looking there so I decided to pull them out band get a closer look. After seeing they still had a decent amount left I put it all back together but now the pedal doesn't feel the same at all. The brakes still work but just barely touching the peddal applies the breakers pretty firmly and the pedal doesn't go down far at all. If I keep pressing down it will slowly go mostly to the floor but when I let back off it is firm again.

How do I fix this?

The peddal used to have much more play in it.

The peddal going to the floor is only when I push on it pretty hard when stopped. It will slowly give way till I can press it all the way down. Pressing the pedal more thab an inch is harder than I would ever want to hit the brakes when moving

Did you put the pads back in the position they came out?

Sometimes there are metal nubs on the pads that can make them misalign in the caliper..

Beyond that its hard to say, id be taking them back apart and see what was done wrong if anything

We have another Impreza that I never drive, but I drove it to see what it's brakes felt like, and they felt pretty much the same to how mine do now. Maybe the extra play in my pedals wasn't supposed to be there and I fixed it...

Yeah sounds like you fixed it. Your pedal shouldn't have excessive play.
