Default Will a 08 STi engine work in a 09 WRX?

I recently blew piston 4 in my 2009 WRX. And have been looking at my options as far as new engines. Currently I'm between two. A rebuild kit with importimageracing, for an AWD tuning block and other parts. Now that's the sure thing but expensive route.
There is also a complete 2008 STi engine, originally 2600mi before rebuild. The group who rebuilt and blueprinted and made everything better was justice racing engines. Now no one in my Subaru group has ever heard of them. I've asked a few tuners as well. But since the rebuild will cost almost 2x more then having an alrdy complete engine. I'm more inclined to get the complete and sell mine as a project. The guy said it was a backup for his teams rally car. But never used it. Sat for 3 years.

But now the issue is... How difficult is installing a 2008 Sti engine into a 2009 WRX?

I'm told intake, and something about variable timing cam on exhaust.
Also, will my ecu need to change? If so
Do I need a STi cluster?

I've done google searches and searches on here. And none quite like this one. Usually newer to much older. Or vice versa.

Any comments appreciated! Just trying to budget a solid build!

The swap to an "sti" engine isn't worth the effort. The wiring harness is diffrent, although I believe your stock main harness. And ecu can remain the same, the fuel lines and vacum lines are routed slightly diffrent and the over all performance bang in your pants for having the crinkle red Intake isn't worth the headache of all the work. Aside from the manifold up, the sti engine is damn close to yours. I thought 09 wrx's had varible timing? If so you can just use the block and heads from this 08 sti and everything else will bolt right on, with out a tune, if you don't have variable timing then at the very least a factory sti short block replacment with drop in forged 99.5 pistons would be equaly as pleasing for half the price. And zero headaches

Edit...if the 08 sti engine has cam work, some tuning might be needed. The stock sti short block and pistons can be had for about 2k and from there you have a much stronger platform to build on with out worries of rod and ringland failure.
