Exactly. If they don't care or are dicks...why should I make any sort of effort? **** 'em.

If it were a neighbor that I regularly had conversations with, then that's different...I would talk to them personally. But some stupid ricer kid...no way...I wouldn't give him the time of day.

Right. Not to mention what if the ricer kid was a complete A hole and even challenged you or something ridiculous? As I get older, I don't want to deal with that nonsense. What would you do, get in a fist fight and go to jail? Of course not lol.

There is HUGE internal pressure to avoid conflict for most Americans. We don't want a fight. We try very hard NOT to upset other people most of the time, not to make them dislike us. We will outright lie to their face in order to make them feel better, most of the time.

Just be aware of that.
You're right, and it's sad. It's also their loss. It makes them liars. I know a lot of people are like that now a days, and it just too bad. Instead of talking to you, they lie to you, and then talk behind your back.

Who likes a liar that talks behind your back? This is what people do to remain friendly???

Color me confused

Was this letter just set in your mailbox, or actually mailed to you? I ask because it is illegal for anyone other than the usps to place anything in your mailbox. So if your neighbor starts up again with the complaints, just shut her down with a complaint to your local postmaster.

your neighbor is an ass.

sorry, my car isn't quite. at start up it's downright ridiculous. especially for the first 2 minutes.

catless, resonatorless Q300, inside a garage.

i've never had a neighbor complain and i leave for work at 5:30 every morning.

wah wah, we want to sleep in. seriously? grow up. i'd imagine she's the neighbor that complains about everything. i agree with turboblunt.

obviously, it goes without saying, don't drive like a douche leaving your house in the morning and don't be revving it high either. but if she doesn't like it it's her problem.

And this is what makes you the mass hole. Based just on looks you've already written the person off and refuse to deal with them in a respectful way.

Get off your high horse.

Out of curiosity, what time do you normally go to bed?

And what would your feeling be about a neighbor who spent the late evenings outside with a stereo and a fire pit making noise well after you went to sleep?

If your reaction is:
*I'm not loud at night, so they shouldn't be either!
Then:
*you're a self-absorbed douche

If your reaction is:
* I would ask them to quiet down.
Then:
* You're a hypocrite

If your reaction is:
*Wouldn't bother me, so my noise shouldn't bother them.
Then:
*You're some combination of self-absorbed or kidding yourself.

If your reaction is:
*I would just have to suck it up.
Then:
*You're not a hypocrite, but you are mildly sociopathic.

So let me give you an example. Say my kid goes out in his loud car and goes joy riding around the neighborhood. He's a new driver so doesn't want to go far from home yet, but he does want to be loud because, well, he's a kid. The neighbors have their 3 year olds asleep and they wake up and are now awake and cranky because my kid's out making all this noise.

So do you think they should go chase him down, figure out who he is and deal with him? Should they just call the police and complain that there's a loud car driving around the neighborhood?

I'll wait for your answer.

Stop being a douche.

I'm supposed to deal with some a$$ho!e kid with a loud exhaust who obviously has no respect for his neighbors...in a respectful way?

well, since i'm a college student, own my own company, have 2 kids, and work a full time job, usually around 1:30am-2am.

i dont have that issue. my neighbors are all incredibly friendly and are very low key.

They should suck it up, this sounds like a rare, maybe one time occurrence. Part of living in society is dealing with other's noise, a car's exhaust is not excessive unless you're putting out F1/ALMS levels and that is rare.

Can I call the cops on kids playing out in the street during the evening? The screaming and basketball bouncing are annoying, maybe I'm trying to nap. Can I call the cops when a baby cries on a plane? In a restaurant? A kid gets in my way in the grocery? These are all annoyances that I have to "endure." But I don't get all butt-hurt about it, I ignore it and move on because that's what adults do.

Are you serious or just trying to defend your stance now? What if EVERY NIGHT you are deep asleep and some jack wagon wakes you up with his superbuttsexx Ebay fart can exhaust? You wouldn't have a problem with it? Cmon man...

I used to have a neighbor that I'd hear banging every night around 2 am. Had kids screaming outside my front window every evening, and a loudass road behind my house where I could hear trucks jake-braking at all random hours.

So would I have a problem? no, I'd be annoyed, but I wouldn't call the ****ing cops over it, I would probably do nothing, because at some point, I'm going to be making noise myself at a random hour and I don't want my neighbors calling the cops on me.

There's a very large difference between a rare unavoidable instance and careless daily disturbance.

There are also laws which take care of both scenarios.

Follow them.

I have the same problem with my car. When i turn it on my buddy says it shakes the house. We both have 05 sti's and are usually working on them at night which i know pisses off the neighbors because around 11pm we have them turned on or driving up and down the street making sure everything is functioning properly.

+1.
There are a lot of things we do out of respect for neighbors. Firing up performance cars or race cars at night is NEVER cool. Same goes for the overtly loud exhaust many WRX and STI owners enjoy. These are a simple realities respectable people abide by.

Back to original post. -Fire it up get it off your street asap at idle speed and warm it up slowly on the way to work. That way the noise is gone so quickly the neighbors will know you are doing your part. Then go from there.

I'm glad I live out in the country, and my house is quite far from the road, so I hear nothing. I'd rather drive an hour to work than have to deal with all that.

I like the note idea though, I hate confrontation. I'm very meek and calm, but I have a nasty bad temper, and I can't fight to save my life. So...I'd get my but kicked, then I would have to run them over with my car. I like my car.
