The concept looks good, but now I am more curious about its performance. I wonder how it will look with the wing on the trunk.

did anyone even bother reading the press release from subaru?

subaru says it will be a flat 4 turbocharged engine. power #'s aren't out yet. its smaller than a GR, so i'm not sure what you guys are talking about. it needs 4 doors because they already have a 2 seater sports car that they don't want to compete against.

oh, and for those GR owners who are saying it doesn't look like a rally car? go look in your driveway. (i do agree to some extent though)

Must be nice to live at home with your parents so you can finance a 30-40k car.

Just look what the mad scientists are doing with boosted BRZ / FR-S... The FA 2.0 is proving to be an incredible engine, and the gears are holding up under the power. As a 2.0DIT w/ twin scroll, with supporting mods & tuning, it will destroy even heavily modded STI's.

Not everybody who owns a WRX lives at home and finances. I've been living on my own for 8+ years and I paid more than half in cash. Would've paid the whole thing (I had the money) but dealer asked me to finance the last $10K as a favor. I'm not a drug dealer, I just worked hard and saved money. It's quite doable.

I make $40k/yr, renting a sweet house with 3 college buddies for $450/mo each, financed my WRX for $28k @ 2.9% for 6 yrs last june, it's down to $22k and I'm $5k into the car in mods already

I don't make it out to the bars as much these days, but my liver is happy about that. god, what a waste of money that is...

Comment was directed at financing a car and living at home rather than securing your financial independence and moving out on your own.

Nothing to do with the wrx or sti, just in general.

You don't need to apologise for owning a WRX, my man. No need to explain yourself to someone's anonymous spew.

I get it that Subaru no longer participates in World Rally and that the GR looks nothing like current WRC cars. IMHO Subaru should have axed the WRX/STI brand/image along with their withdrawal from the WRC instead of milking it for the last 6 or so years.
Its just weird. I've had this image in my head for the last 8 years of what these cars look like and this just isn't it. At the very least they should drop the WRX name and just stick with the STI branding.

Love it and probably will make it my Fifth WRX, BUT if I have learned anything over the years, I will never buy a first production car ever again.

Agreed. I really love the concept and if it goes into production I will have to buy it. But I've been around long enough to know that waiting for year 2's revisions is key.

oh i know. in canada it's not a good thing to have a loan except for a mortgage (which are difficult to get). and if you aren't making at least $100000 a year you don't drive a new $40000 car.

He was replying to a previous post specifically, just not quoting them.

And for everyone saying the GR doesn't look like a rally car... ummmmm....

I don't think the 1/3 of your gross yearly salary is a bad recommendation, in fact, it's pretty wise...but that all depends on your situation. If you have a stable job with low expenses and run very little risk in losing that job, and no change in your assumed liabilities, then it's not a bad idea.

But as a homeowner and a young family, owning (2) 30k cars can be a luxury.

The more I look at the pics... the more I am willing to forgot my never by a first production car policy.

I truly like the fact they are making the WRX/STI its own car and not a boosted Impreza.

Hahah, I really like it too ... but don't do it man.

I've been burned twice after buying a first year vehicle, and had issues both times dealing with recalls and seeing the 2nd year version significantly improved.

It's gonna be hard to resist this time, but I have to!

Great post. People who don't know anything about rally should just ****.

Subarus are still winning production rallies all over the world (see the Rally Islas Canarias just last week). You can pick up the phone and with enough $$$ in hand buy a group N STI that is ready to compete. Petter Soldberg was heavily involved in the development of the GR.

Just because Subaru is no longer in the WRC, doesn't diminish the cars capability. None of the current WRC cars are remotely related to their road versions.

If Subaru is not going to produce group N cars or parts for the new model then the STI/WRX will cease to be special to me, and I'll be sticking with my GR.

When I bought my 2.5i back in '07 the dealer said 1/3 of gross monthly salary towards the payment.

If 1/3 of gross yearly salary was for a car then most of us would be driving ****boxes.
