Default center diff source

Hey Guys,

I'm fearing the worst that my center diff is starting to let go. I'm getting the common "deceleration noise" on my 04 STI. While cruising down a long hill, I get this "garra garra" noise and the intensity of the noise can be varied by adjusting the DCCD. Noise become very apparent when in locked mode.

I'm looking to open up the extension case to replace the bearings and center diff... Anyone here have a good source for good center diffs (DCCD) other then dealership? I imagine the dealers would have an astronomical price for these... I will, however, have to get bearing from them...

Thanks!

Rocket Rally, NASIOC for sale forum, ebay.

I thought a lot of the deceleration noise is related to the clutch?

Same here, everyone says it's the clutch, but no one seems to mention if the noise changes changes with dccd settings.

I'm just trying to determine costs to see how I should approach the problem. The diff can be done with the trans in the car... If it persists, the change the clutch. Or vise versa... If i take the trans out and do both... Will never know what the true cause was if it fixes the problem. Very hesitant on taking the trans off. Hehe

I'll keep an eye out on the classifies and hit up rally.

Thanks!

Man take the trans out. It's easy in a Subaru, thats why I love them. Take your time can be done in an afternoon in a shop.. On jack might be a weekend. Look at the clutch , spin the bearing and see if its ok. Likely is a clutch but have seen center diff problems... Center bearing goes. Key to both jobs is taking your time. Good luck

Yeah, I got the email out to Rocket to see if they got one. Got a WTB on the classifieds as well to see what shows up.

If I don't get any hits on a week, I'll hit up Rallispec.

I'm not too concerned about taking the tranny out. I want to do one thing at a time to determine what may be the problem. All the symtoms seems to point to the Center diff so I figure I'll replace that first. If that doesn't, then I know it's the clutch and will let it ride a few more months. From what I have read, the clutch noise is more annoying then damaging.
