Post Newbie with a StOcK 2006 impreza 2.5i subi

So i just bought a CLEAN 2006 subaru impreza 2.5i sedan, it looks good and i want it to sound good! i have friends that know lots of stuff about subaru's but i want other peoples advice. . i hear alot about no use in putting really any engine mods to it cause its pointless. . but i want an exhaust that sounds like a beast and i heard getting an intake will help with that. . so im am in need for some help getting the perfect combination with intake and probably just catback exhaust to make her rumble a bit

Do you think vacuum cleaners sound beastly? If so then go for the intake.

Does not compute.

You are about to have a newborn and you want to make your car louder?

Also how are we supposed to judge your age and obviously how much more mature you are than us "kids" from your first post?

Who are you calling "kid"?

Your n/a 2.5L will not sound "like a beast". Ever. I'm so sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

It can be made loud with a big 'ol catback but whats the point?

You want the boxer rumble, you need unequal length headers. Have fun with that...

"I have a kid on the way, and I want my safe, reliable car to sound like a beast." Said no responsible parent ever....

i understand the fact that its not going to sound like a wrx or sti, but im sure anything will sound better that stock and intake will help with sound and the throttle response too wont it?

^ This is a sticky from the technical forum for normally aspirated Subaru powertrains.

This thread is titled "The Official CAI/Exhaust Thread for N/A Scoobies"

Plenty of good info to be had there; read it and then read it again.

I personally would not modify the performance of a naturally aspirated Subaru. I would do aftermarket wheels, coilovers, and paint, but no more. You don't want your Subaru to sound like a rice rocket and have nothing to show for it. However, if you really want SOMETHING done to your exhaust, just look up a part called a resonator. Cat-back exhaust is too big of an investment IMO for a Subaru that is not an STi or a WRX. Websites like CarID can check the compatibility of certain parts. Some are also universal.

First, welcome Blackbarsuu,

As a soon to be dad, please ignore those who think a child + a loud, low toned exhaust is a bad thing. My son was telling me the other day how when he was little, he still remembers getting in my Cobra and with the low, loud, grumbling exhaust just a couple feet from his ears (and the car did not have side windows or a top), he would be asleep in about 5 minutes. So feel free to straight pipe your car as far as the kids go.

You may want to go directly to the N/A section of nasioc and read through there. Those of us who had Subarus before the turbo WRX even existed in the US did what we could to improve the cars and today's RS is no different. The reason that WRX guys say that there's nothing that you can do is because you can't just clear the airways (mostly exhaust), change how the computer deals with it and call it a day. If you want more noise, it's just like any other car. You certainly can change the exhaust and anything behind the cat won't require a tune. Unfortunately, Subaru mafs are very finicky and so doing anything on the intake besides removing silencers and such (upstream of the airbox) is about all you want to do. Back in the day, we'd upgrade the cams for better flow but that's a lot of money as it's not like a Ford 302 of unbolting stuff with the engine in the car... you have to remove the engine to do it.

there ya go. Have fun with the car.
