Front Strut bars are mostly for show. Do the sway for a real upgrade

That's what I've heard. And I've heard it from folks who AutoCross or RallyCross, too.

Would the handling be relatively safe in that configuration, seeing as it's biased towards oversteer, or is the effect not so pronounced so as to actually become a hazard?

When people are talking about the rear sway bay inducing oversteer they are talking about at the limit. Not from everyday driving.

In my opinion, better tires thoroughly helped the overall personality and handling of the car a ton..

I haven't upgraded my tires yet, I will wait till they're worn out. BUT, I agree with what you said. I think for me, I will keep my 19mm RSB, add a perrin strut tower brace, and GOOD tires when they're ready for new ones, and it should be just about perfect....for me at least.

I can also verify that good tires and slightly wider wheels drastically changed the way the car handles. I'm running the 17x8 WRX wheels with Falken Azenis, and it handles SO beautifully. It will only get better with a sway bar upgrade, and potential lowering springs.

The 17x 8 fits fine with no rubbing?

MjSub2.0 is running 18 x 8.5 and he said he has no rubbing issues.

I was going to do the perrin strut bar just because it's cheaper and easier, but I heard it does comparatively little relative to a thicker sway bar. I noticed some body roll shift before the sway bar does it's work on winding roads and some push from the front wheels upon entering a turn heavily (mild understeer). I'm hoping a thicker sway fixes that. On the other hand I heard a strut tower brace improves steering feel and turn in...so I'm not really sure anymore. Have you heard much to sway you one way or the other in that decision?

Well I've already got the 19mm RSB so there's really no decision for me to make. And where are you getting the front strut tower brace cheaper than the RSB? The OEM 19mm STI RSB can be had for $114 including shipping and new bushings!!

Are you still running stock yokos? I say put your money in better tires, then think about further suspension mods.

I disagree...unless you NEED new tires, the 19mm RSB is the best bang for the buck. Better tires will enhance what the RSB improves on.

He is trying to further improve what the larger bar improves. Instead of suspension mods with relatively crappy tires, get better tires...

I still have the stock tires, And will for another 6 months, but I am happy enough with just the 19mm bar and know it well be better when I get new tires

I can't really afford better tires at this point, and I don't want to invest a huge amount in the car as I don't know how long I'll keep it. I'm just trying to balance out the handling as economically as I can at this point.

Well in that case since you already have the 19mm RSB I would just say leave well enough alone.

I can't stand understeer. The 22mm sway I found costs 220, and the strut tower brace 180. I can afford either one but not both.

Snapped another iPhone flick today while she was getting all wet:

Hopefully I'll get some actual photos when the weather turns around.

Looks great, man. Those body-colored fog light covers just change SO MUCH. And it's such a clean look too with the lower end all kitted out. I always love seeing cars that look so clean and "stock", but that really aren't.

Sway, do you want to pay for for a suspension improvement, or do you want a piece of engine bling that barely does anything? Your call

My next upgrade is going to be this. I am just really torn between the 19mm rsb or the 22mm and I'm also curious how much the different mounting holes for the Perrin bar really effect its performance. My car sees just regular daily driving with frequent spirited cornering but nothing more. I'm still looking for more opinion I dont see to many people who seem to have the 22mm. Either way I will most likely go with the Perrin bar. Then figure out what to do about endlinks
