Default Timing belt tensioner

Ok so my new motor has 3k on it and I'm going to be replacing my second tensioner. The motor has bc 272 cams as well as +1 intake and exhaust valves. I did get the bc springs and retainers as well. The motor has a ticking sound in the front drivers side head. Replaced first tensioner and noise got quieter but still present. It almost sounds like a solid lifter issue for those of you that played with V8 engines. So my question is what in the hell is causing me to have this tapping on the one side and blowing out timing belt tensioners? Please help I'm at a loss here folks.

How do you know the tensioners are failing?

Did you replace all the idler pulleys too?

did you measure the lash or have someone else do it and just slap it all together?

are all the bolts for the idlers torqued properly?

I would start by checking all those before you pop the valve covers off to verify your lash.

Goodluck!

Phil, all the pulleys and tensioners were replaced and torqued to spec per Subarus guide lines. The first tensioner was cracked in the back where the guide hole is for the pin to slide through. It was new as well. The builder who does all of the local dealer work said it was shimmed and lash is correct. I'm gonna have him recheck the lash on Friday

Without hearing it I would say it could be bad valve lash adjustment if it is only on one side

does it do it when you rev the motor and let the rpms come down?almost sound like light rod knock? it may be the avcs gear on the left head chattering, don't ask me how I know.
