Default '03 WRX Sportwagon Worth Buying?

Hey everybody,

I'm looking to get my first Subaru and I'm in need of some advice. I'm looking at an 03 WRX Wagon that needs a little (or possibly a lot) of work. The obvious things it needs are valve cover gaskets and a steering rack boot. I'be been working on cars for about ten years so I'm well versed in PITA procedures like the valve covers. What worries me is that the owner says it has hesitation under heavy load. After looking around here and other forums it seems to be a common problem with the turboed engines with many causes. What I'm wondering is, the car has 186k on it and from the looks of it is in good shape (would probably be considered fair value on kbb) so for $5.5k is it worth picking up as a first Subaru or will I be spending more on parts and fixes that come with the high mileage than I would in general buying a well priced lower mileage car?

Thanks!
