Default Problems with my 05 WRX

Help I have been looking around the forums lately but have ran into a problem so i need to make this account to ask! I have a 2005 wrx
sti wagon i bought a couple months ago because my best friend had a really fast one. Anyways i paid my friend to put on a turbo i bought of a guy on craigslist. he said it was a hta82 and i also bought some other bolt ons like a perrin upipe and a cx racing intercooler the car already had a perrin turbo back. Everything was installed and the car was running a little weird but was really quick. Yesterday when i started the car it sounded weird and the rpms was going from 500-1,500 ish i thought it was a little odd but decided i needed to leave for work so i left and about 15min later it started to sound like a box of marbles being shaken up really hard! I think something was in my engine so i gave it some gas to try to shake it out but it just made a louder noise then stalled out. MY friend told me its probably the fuel pump gave out and that i should be able to replace it on the side of the road easy. Which fuel pump do you guys recommend for my mods, or is this not my real problem?

Ummm, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't replace a fuel pump on the side of the road. It includes taking out the rear seat.

... secondly, most likely what happened was you were not tuned for these mods. Driving caused the engine to "explode". You most likely have major internal damage. Hence, the marble sound.

... and thirdly... 2005 WRX STI wagon? Is it an EJ20 that has an STI turbo? Any upgraded turbo better be tuned for.

Brace yourself.

Yes you need a new motor. Yes you're friend does not know what they are doing. You can not just install a bigger turbo without many supporting modds AND A TUNE most importantly. The fuel pump is located in the trunk, so how would a bad pump make a sound in your engine like marbles?

Fill out your profile so we know your location. Then someone can tell you a GOOD subaru performance shop to take this thing to and get real expert advise, not speculative internet advice.

1. Where do you live? Be specific as it will help us, help you.
2. Take a picture of your car and post it as we do not have STI wagons in the United States.
3. So you installed a bigger turbo but no tuning, no injectors, and no fuel pump right?

This thread makes me highly intersted.

I'm from So. Cal. I looked at the title of the car and it says its a wrx, the person who sold it to me said it was a STI. My friend installed the turbo and I don't know what else, I'm having trouble contacting him atm.

ok well sti have sti steering wheels sti brembo calipers (big and red or gold usually), the tmic usually has big STi letters, recaro seats, sti shifter... and other things these are the most common thing to notice tho. is it a 5 speed or 6 speed. someone might have lied to you since you have not done any research at all....

do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research. do your research.

use the search option located between "new post" and "quick links"

also dont take any advice from your friend he seems to not know much.

as far as your problem it does sound like a blown motor.

Yes and no it won't have recaros, defiantly don't talk to your "friend" anymore lol. If it is a Sti it will have blue interior and a six speed trans the trans being the easiest to tell.

Prime example of why to take your car to a reputable subaru shop, not ask asshats on the internet for vague advice.

Jesus Christ did you do any research before buying your car? It sounds like you don't even know what car you paid for. If you have money to blow, you can paypal me some of it. PM me for my address.

This sounds fishy but I'll bite just in case it's not. First off do not take anymore advice from your friends. Do not start or drive your car anywhere. Get a professional from Subaru or even better a local reputable tuner to look at your car.

Cross your fingers and hope a pulley and belt just slipped and its just serpentine slapping around. But be ready for the worst. Sounds like catastrophic failure.
