"...The only real obstacle is my wife having an irrational dislike for wagons..."

Balanced by the only real obstacle free irrational like of you?

I prefer wagons, but might think twice of warring with a red head over one. Even the Romans Legions were respectful of the ginger warriors.

I've been reading every article related to the spied testing over the past week looking to see if anyone had anything interesting to add. Because you never know. Unfortunately, nah.

Aside from some obviously misinformed guesses, the only thing of interest is that so many publications assume there will be a hatch. It seems completely taken for granted. Alas, they missed the memo.

I hope there's more news about this soon. This no next-gen hatch business actually has me considering buying a '14 WRX. At first I was thinking STI, but realized the only reason I wanted it was the nicer shift feel. That's an expensive shifter.

Not that I really give a ****, bit it interests me as to why, only after they say there won't be a hatch, you be came interested. Seems to be so many haters here.

It's the 5-speed, interior/tech and the fuel economy. That's all. I just hoped the new one would do better there.

When I bought my Jetta, I was coming off of a rather intense 3-year affair with a 350Z so I was ready to relax a bit so to speak, and focus more on biking as a hobby. I needed utility, and considered the WRX and STI then. I was looking at driving 20k miles a year and the TDI is a blast to drive anyhow so it was a no brainer. The WRX looked weak next to the STI (no wide-body yet) and the STI was too expensive for what I wanted it for.

Now I want the sporty side of driving back so bad I can smell the brakes burning. Even if the new WRX nails all of my other criteria (and I think it will do really well,) the hatch is critical. So it's out, and the old WRX is on the table.

The "memo" was apparently issued by Tom Doll only to two Australian reporters covering the show. Somehow, it seems not a single US car magazine managed to get an interview with Tom Doll at the show after the unveiling, although it's possible they're saving that stuff for their print magazines.

You might want to start pressing your salespersons to press their district managers for info on the 14s and then start thinking sooner. Like a 2013.... just sayin...

Are you thinking the 2014 WRX might not happen?? I know there are some '13s around right now, but I won't be eligible for VIP until August and I want to go that route. I haven't had a dealer even entertain the notion of invoice for any car otherwise. Then God knows how lowball they'll go on my trade. I'm not a big haggler.

My plan is to come in with VIP. This seems to make them very happy. Then while they're in that euphoric state, I'll give them a very rigid number that I want for my trade.

If they are like some of the dealers I have talked to before getting my last few Subarus, they won't want to give you a great trade in when you Use the VIP. I talked to several before I got my certificates which designate which dealer you want to use. I have heard of folks going to CarMax and getting their offer, then using that when looking for a trade in price. I am going to do that next time.

The near-production camo'd prototype running around the 'Ring suggests the timetable might be more advanced than NASIOC was led to believe.

Well that is disconcerting. Nothing EVER comes easy buying a new car

A little optimistic but wouldn't that be nice? For once I'm rooting for the new WRX to come out later, hah. This bodes well for people wanting it sooner.

No. Heard there might not be a hatch 2014.

When it comes to a disagreement with a trade amount, this is what my manager tells them. He worked for Carmax for a good while.

I made it work, it just took some time and driving on my part to find a dealer who was willing to deal. When I did find one, I stayed with them for my next 2 purchases. My particular salesman is gone now, so I might have to look around again.

Not trying to be. It was something I heard, so I figured I'd give you a heads up before they are all gone. We have a customer now that want's a 13 hatch. The color/trim he wants, there is only 6 in the U.S. Would hate for you to wait for the 14 and if they don't have it, then the 13s are all sold out, or not the color you want, or too far away adding to the cost of the car to go get it.That's why I said to press your folks. You are in one of the independents and they may be different.

Oh man, well thanks for the heads up then. It seems odd but I suppose it's entirely possible - cutting the lowest production configurations all together as they finally phase the old Impreza out.

Yep, that is what I did with one of my son's cars and got an extra $1000 for his trade. Worked well for me.

If you're going to bother going to Carmax for the quote, why not just sell it to Carmax? What's the advantage of trading it in? Is there a tax break or something?

Leaning towards it being the new WRX. You'll know 100% in 30 days because that is when the Subaru dealer meeting is. The sales folks around the country will head to Vegas and get to see the new car in person but don't expect any pics unless one gets leaked.

I am, for one, pissed. I don't care for the way they've handled this. The concept then a week later seeing a car circling the ring that is almost certain to be the new car looking very much like an Impreza sedan with a big tacky wing on back while they've told us new all new platform and this and that.

Reality is they are a small co. and what probably happened was they were messing with their patented electric turbocharger and axed it late in the game and we'll be getting a tarted up econobox same as always. I'm fine with that except it shouldn't have taken this long. I wanted to be a loyal customer but that has waned. They have boasted this and that and while purely my speculation...I don't believe they are going to live up to their own hype. I hope I am wrong.

Yep. New car sales tax is calculated on amount remaining after trade-in.

I just had an epiphany, albeit probably all wrong. Subaru has been able to monopolize everyone's attention to the new WRX and away from the 2014 BRZ. Maybe they have decided that the BRZ will become their big news. Maybe it is what they were talking about when they mentioned Subaru's return to motorsports. What if they add a turbo, good tires, beef up the brakes, and tweak the suspension a little with out anyone noticing until its reveal...

Nah, that would be to easy.

For a MY2015 BRZ...maybe, I'd have trouble believing it for MY2014. I'd also be PISSED.

A grippy BRZ with a responsive ~275hp turbo could probably be sold for well under $40k and would be a genuine competitor to the Cayman. Why not?

Maybe it's like the story of the Cayman and the 911. Don't make the BRZ too fast or it will make its big brother look bad.
