Default VWs CrossBlue Coupe Concept, Now With Official Details

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/04/vws...-now-with.html

Quote:
Volkswagen has made an unusually strong statement with the CrossBlue Coupe concept, which has just been officially revealed in Shanghai, not only with the bolder than usual styling, but also with a look-at-me paint finish. The message is clear – they want to attract attention and have succeeded in doing so. Now, we can add to our previous article, where we… covered styling, with fresh technical details straight from VW.
The CrossBlue Coupe is longer, wider and less tall than VW’s Touareg, measuring 4.89 meters in length, 2.01 meters in width and 1.68 meters in height. Also, with 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) coming up in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h (147 mph) it’s no slouch, thanks to its “Twin Drive” powertrain.

It has a peak power output of 409HP /415PS, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. The main part of the power is provided by a 291HP / 295PS three-liter turbocharged gasoline-fed V6, while electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles add the difference.

They draw their juice from a nine kWh battery pack, which is good for an all-electric range of 33 km (~ 20 miles). EV mode can be maintained up to a speed 120 km/h (75 mph), so highway cruising sans using petrol is a possibility.

The main benefit of the hybrid system is, of course, the extra efficiency, and VW claims the concept is good for 6.9 l/100 km/h (40.9 mpg UK / 34.1 mpg US) without the aid of the electric motors, and with them working as they should, that can be boosted to as low/high as 3.0 l/100km, which equates to 79 mpg US or 94.1 mpg UK. This means that with the 80-liter fuel tank brimmed, a range of around 1,200 km (~745 miles) can be achieved.

Volkswagen says the concept has “five comfortable seats”, which are upholstered in Nappa leather. The people behind this interior really deserve credit, because despite looking like something you would expect to see in a concept, it appears to be fully-functional, with all the controls you’d expect to find. Judging by the way it looks and how it appears to be put together, it could make it into production in this form – it even has two cup holders in the center console, and a cubby space right next to them.

Aside from the unavoidable speculation, it gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an even bigger 12.3-inch “cockpit display” – the digital gauge cluster. Also, in a similar manner to the Tesla Model S, all buttons aside for the hazard lights have been turned into touch-sensitive panels. Oh, and it gets two iPads, mounted on each of the front seats’ headrests.

Why not Tiguan Sport Hybrid? or Tiguan CrossBlue...

It isn't a coupe.

That is quite similar to PSA's "HYbrid4". Peugeot/Citroen have been in production for over a year already. No more myth .

I like it.

And I'm going to start calling both my wagon and SUV a "coupe" as well (thanks for the paradigm shift, VW).

I do not care if they call it a meatball sportcoat.

That thing is sexy.

Not yet, but they're not mythical. I think facelift model is dropping the 3.0 V6 for the 2.1 4 but not sure if it'll be paired with the hybrid system.

So now you want a PHEV Seriously though in spite of myself I agree. I generally eschew styling and worry about other parameters when considering vehicles, but this one does the styling pretty darn well. Since the outlander is self immolating it also makes this one more appealing if they ever actually sell it. The non -coupe version is nothing special styling wise or performance wise, but one does get more interior room.

I will only say one thing to defend myself.

Product sells. It always has. In a family hauler I would even consider a DSG transmission. But for my fun car. Well you know.

If this thing can actually tow more than 7,000lbs, i want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, VW i don't think produces SUV's in America, which means they have a 25% tariff just to be imported. Which makes an already expensive SUV 25% more expensive and sadly too rich for my blood.

Incorrect. It is going to be built in TN as is their current SUV. Well they are having a "competition" between plants in the US, but they are going to end up building it in TN I bet

Mythical doesn't necessarily mean something is fake.. it can mean it's something that you've talked about that you'll probably never actually see.

Well that's good news to me. I've been lusting over a touareg TDI, but put off by the high price. But the current $45k price less the 25% tariff would make it roughly $35k and in everyone's price range looking for an SUV in that class.

Not sure if serious, or trolling...

But most european diesel vehicles are marketed by the color blue.

Bluetec, etc...

The urea-based diesel exhaust fluid that is injected to catalyze with diesel particulate emissions may actually be blue in color.

Some hybrids are marketed with the color green, although electrified Toyota drivetrain cars have a blue-shadowed logo, as evidently blue is a marketing color for electricity/electronics/technology.

Correct, DEF(diesel emission fluid) or brand name "AdBlue" is actually blue similar to windshield wiper fluid.

This is just a autoshow car. The probably won't bother actually having either the crossblue coupe, or crossblue actually appear in PHEV form. If they did though the cross blue would definitely be the vehicle I wanted. The outlander got rid of their rear row of seats in the PHEV version. I would love to have them still.

I was trolling, but thank you for this info because I was unaware of this marketing background.

Still should be painted blue!

Just what the world needs: another small greenhouse "cool" design that will require the use of blind spot monitors up the kazoo to compensate for its poor inherent visibility.
