What are you talking about. All I heard was wanted to cruise but couldn't because of boys in blue.

Play with the running light switch on top of the steering column.

I don't know how to fix or diagnose your problem, but grammar and a concise, cohesive question goes a long way.

Best of luck.

At least it's semi-understandable now. My head hurts so badly that I couldn't even begin to attempt a diagnosis. Perhaps someone can read the edited version, and would care to make an attempt to address the issue you are having with your vehicle.

Personally, I think you are correct in assuming that you effed something up during your aftermarket light installation. You should bring it to a qualified shop, who will snicker after they discover what you did wrong, repair it, and let the shop time run for another hour or two, just because shops generally hate DIYers who mess things up and then expect the shop to bail them out inexpensively.

Have a nice day.

I'm still confused. you don't have the DRL's in the rear. But do you have standard tail lights? When you flips the lights all the way on, do you have tail lights? If so, shouldn't be an issue.

Personally, I drive with my headlights on every single time I drive. It draws almost nothing, is safer, and in a Subaru, they automatically shut off when the car is off. Why wouldn't you have your headlights on all the time?

No, not at all

It can't be much more than a relay, missing connection, pinched wire, and/or blown fuse.

Have the lights worked for a while up until now?

First with a test light check and see if you have power to the tail light filament with the lights turned on. If yes, you have a grounding issue, if no, you have a problem on the power side.
I don't know about an 02, but on newer Subarus the switch on the steering column bypasses the tail light relay and turns on the parking lights. If you have this switch and the lights go on, the problem is in the relay circuit. If the lights don't go on, you have a wiring problem.

Without the switch take out one tail/parking light bulb and apply power to the power side of the socket. If all the other tail lights go on, you have a relay problem. If they don't, you have a wiring problem.

If this is confusing, take it to a shop and have them check it out.

all lights on my car work except for the park lights and those should be the day time running lights, just on the back of my car there is no running lights, so when i turn my lights on, everything is on except for the back

Your DRL's are only the low beam headlights at reduced power. That's it.

Ok so to clarify, drl's are disabled (front). One click on the switch and no tail lights. Two clicks and you have all lights (including tail lights) turn on. If that's the case then I don't see any problems associated with legality. Drl's only light up your brights at reduced power, not your tails. Yes the tail lights should be illuminated along with your front parking lights on that first click, but really as long as your headlights are on, the tails will be on as well.

Did you personally install those aftermarket tails, or did the previous owner? Are they led, or oem replacement? They were probably either modded, improperly installed (blowing a fuse or relay), or don't support a parking light feature. Post pics of the lights, it might help.

You guys are harsh. Regardless of the grammar errors, it makes sense. Maybe because i have the same problem right now, but it would of been nice to find a bit more of an answer then all this grammar bs.

As for the OP, i believe the problem lies within the fuse box inside the dash. If I push in on the fuse box they will flicker and sometimes stay on. I haven't fully disassembled it yet, but I am going to hunt this down. I'm thinking there is a pinched/loose wire of some sort that only gets connected if the wires are sitting just right.

Hopefully someone can chime in with the exact fix, because jamming my body under the dash is a B****.

I doubt your lights got messed up from your mods as well, and just to clarify his DRL in his tails (or at least mine) don't always stay on.

Default 05 impreza rs hatch similar problem

I have a similar problem to yours, i have no dash light or running lights. Using bypass on column, no lights. Using headlight switch, no lights. Also this car has no modifications. At the fusebox no.5 and no. 12 have no power under any circumstances. In fact they have ground is this normal? When I say they have ground I am jumping with a test light from power off another fuse and with contact to no. 5 or no. 12 the light comes on (ground). Any advice would be helpful.

not to be a pirate, but does anyone know why you would jump the ground (thick black) from the light switch to the parking light switch power wire (black red)

To clarify the issue:

OP does not have running tail lights when the headlights are on. He has all other lights. The tail lights function as brake lights but not as runners. So at night, it is not legal nor is it safe to be driving around in.
