Default Difference in EJ257s?

Is there a difference between the EJ257 from an STI and the EJ257 out of a WRX? Because I was ordering a head bolt for mine the other day and there was a difference of a few hundred dollars for the one they had listed for a WRX EJ257 and an STI EJ257, so I was wondering what the difference is.

WRX has a ej255. Your WRX (unless you have a swap) has a ej205... What exactly are you asking?

Well I bought my 02 WRX from a mechanic down in South Carolina and he said the engine was swapped out of a newer WRX, I looked at the engine serial and it's an EJ257. The part store had one listed for that engine code for a WRX and an STI. Are you saying they never put the EJ257 in WRX's?

So I have a complete STI engine? Or are you saying just the bottom end is from an STI?

Ej257 is the code from the STI. The thing you need to ask is if the mechanic you got your car from did a full swap or if he did a hybrid ej257 block with ej205 heads.

This is critical information as the part you are looking for is for the head, and I do not know if it will be a universal part.

Call the guy you got the car from and find out exactly what you have.

I talked to him the other day. It's a full EJ257. It's quite possible that the guy I talked to on the phone at the parts store had no earthly clue what he was talking about and just knew how to type info into the computer.

You have an EJ257 and didn't even know that when you bought it?

No, I knew that it had an EJ257, but I found out a bit later the hybrid swap, so I called him to make sure that it was a full swap and not a hybrid swap.
