Default Need help on cylinder heads

Hi I have a 07 wrx, recently I got bet valves due to the bolt on the tensioner broke, Subaru know has my car and there working on it, they charging me 4,800 to fix my car, I was wondering for that $ I could get better heads, what do you think should I pay for OE parts or get performance parts, and if so what would you recommend.

Without knowing the cost they are charging you for what parts, we really can't say anything. You didn't mention if they are swapping valves, pistons, entire head, etc. And there really aren't "better" heads from aftermarket that will fit that price, and a guess is a large amount of that is labor since the motor must be pulled.

Their labor should be warrantied no matter what, you're paying $4800, doesn't sound like you have a warranty anyway.
Do a search for aftermarket heads, take yours to get pnp'd, there's plenty of companies selling different levels of pnp'd heads with different valves and springs. You could just get some cams too, open it up a bit.

I think they're doing more than just valves for that remaining 4k. If you can get an actual quote of everything being done, then some one could maybe tell you if there is a cheaper route.

You realise that they're doing the valves and putting your engine back together and putting it back in the car for that 4k? No way the labour is just 800.

Well I'm going to get my own parts, so I'm only paying them 800 or so, but know I need valves, I may as well replace them all, this is the first time I do this so if u have any info or suggestions I highly appreciate it, and I do have the heads at home

I've stripped, cleaned and reassembled HLA heads before. Even then I don't feel confident doing solid lifter type heads properly. Valve lash will have to be set with new valves. Best to leave it to the dealership.
