I got a few bells and whistles but more like 52K out the door. Yeah everyone responds differently I guess, but coming from a forester I was impressed. Perhaps if I had a Sti instead I may not have been as blown away

So, cbr600f3, has buyers remorse set in? That's not a sarcastic or mean remark, I'm actually curious.

I've been debating the same thing, STi or S4 to replace my 2007 Impreza. I'm a huge Subaru fan, the wife has a 2011 Forester that replaced her 02 Impreza. I need AWD for the winters, need something sporty with a MT, and can carry two car seats + bass guitar. Options get pretty limited once looking at the MPGs too. I fear the dreaded maint. costs of the Audi in the long run too, but I have also heard they are starting to get much better with that lately.

Being a huge tech geek, I really want the tech features the S4 has that the STi won't have for many years, if ever. Also, I'd love to hear my podcasts and music over road noise and without having to install a better sound system (although admittedly Subaru has gotten a little better in that department, but still not good enough for me).

Why not a 335xi? Sedan or coupe? I test drove a coupe when I was looking around for cars. I test drove the Montego Blue one. Man that's a nice color on that car. Anyways, the 335xi was excellent. The gear box is as smooth as butter, not clunky like the gearbox in the wrx, but then the sti gearbox may be different. It had xenon's, sat nav, cold weather package including the heated seats, basically everything that you could need. Power came on very smooth. Linear like. Probably due to it being twin turbo. Mods are always available for it, although expensive. The N54/N55 is a good platform. It has some good exhaust noise, but inside you don't really hear all the wind and road noise that you hear in the WRX.

I have a hooked up 2006 wrx tr and I smoked the 2014 s4 there not fast at all I had a car length on it and the kid was trying hard he was pissed, I would never spend that much on that car to get smoked by a wrx. Now if u where looking at the rs4 or rs5 that's a diff story

If the only measure of a car, for you, is how fast it is in the straight line, buying your WRX was as dumb as buying an S4.

^^^ Be that as it may, I noticed that Audi people tend to be just as fanatical about their overpriced VWs as everybody else. They will say "it was just fine with normal maintenance" but then it turns out that "normal maintenance" recommended by the manufacturer involves replacing essentially large parts and piece of the car all around until there isn't much original drivetrain left. And definitely NOT at Subaru prices. Of course Audi people forget to mention that little part, one just has to dig for it.

When I pay $60K for a I expect to do absolutely NOTHING but oil/tires/brakes/spark plugs/liquids for 200K miles. Anything over that is excessive and shouldn't be considered regular maintenance.

Thank you for agreeing with me. I don't have a comment on the rest, other than that those shopping should do their own research, rather than blindly believing forum claims.

I have a **** load of suspension f and r strut bars, lowering springs, struts, sway bars my car handles very well and would smoke that same s4 on back roads so no just going in a straight line wasn't why I bought my wrx

Cool you beat a car that is not out yet. Look I didn't make this thread when I was deciding as a pissing match, I was truly looking for feedback from those who owned audi's in the past. After driving the Audi it will be tough to go back to Subaru. It is solid and doesn't feel like it is going to come apart at speed.

So ur modded wrx beat a stock s4 so that makes it slow? Ur logic makes no sense. A stock s4 runs a 13.4 second 1/4 mile thus making it almost a full second faster in stock form than ur wrx. So ur wrx must be ridiculously slow to u huh?

I'd take the S4 if you don't plan on modding it And just want something nice and decently quick.

This! I am not going to mod it as I do not want to loose my warranty and it is fun to drive! At least as quick as my stage 2 fxt was!

I bet a stage 2 S4 would clean your clock...just saying stage 2 to stage 2.

I am just going to leave this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMtkis-bPr8

Hi guys,

haven't been in here in a while. I have a 2013 S4 with the 7 speed dsg. It's a joy to drive. 4.4 0-60 and 13.0 in most raid tests...not too shabby.

Not planning on modifying it, but I'd watch this if you think they are hard to mod.

http://jalopnik.com/how-to-make-an-a...five-468612234

I bought it because it smooth, comfy, very quick, best dsg in anything other than a Porsche pdk, and we'll at my age....suits me better :-)

We are all just lucky to have access to such a wide selection of amazing cars these days, sti included.

ps...Google earth on my nav......check! :-)

I didn't read the first 4 pages because my Internet connection is spotty but i owned a 2010 s4 before this car and they are worlds apart. I don't see how they can be compared because the price is also worlds apart and is one of the reasons I sold it.

I am only stage 1 in the STI right now. I have stage 2 coming next week but on the s4 i was stage 2+ which was apr tune, intake, exhaust, smaller s/c pulley. That car was super fast. It would rape the older gen rs4 which i heard mentioned in this thread and countless other cars too. Stock the car is good for 12.9, modded like I had was low 12s. Everything else was better. The handling and steering was clearly better, I know that is mentioned a lot around here, that the handling is no good.

OP I switched to the sti because its $15k less expensive, its not as flashy so you don't get people hating on you for no reason in traffic as much, and i had some bad luck where my clutch failed twice and 2k installed each time was enough to make me give up on that car. I feel that was more bad luck than anything.

I am happy with the STI but it does feel quite slow. Hopefully that goes away once more mods come in. Thats my only real complaint. I can deal with the rest. If i could afford it i would keep this car and get a boss mustang for a second car. Maybe in the future. I will try and remember to report back with more opinions after i get some more mods which should be around mid week next week.

It's ok i still read nasioc from time to time. I disagree about the flashy aspect as I feel 99% of people have no idea what it is or what it can do. My xt was a sleeper and the s4 just as much IMO. So far it has been solid the 2010 was the first year of the 3.0t so we will see how it holds up.

B5 S4 was my dream car few years ago. I bought used with 59K. Once it hit 90K, it became a nightmare.

One pros, that I like on the S4 is the ***** points. Other than that.. meh

Flashy will vary from area to area. In some areas, just being an Audi makes it flashy. In other areas, an S4 would just look like yet another Audi, meh, boring. Know your area, and you'll know how the car will be received there.
