I managed to find a guy that will give me heads for free. They were rebuilt 17k miles ago and he said the only thing wrong is the valve lash needs to be redone. How does that compare to completely rebuilding a head? I know getting a used heads rebuilt runs around 400 if everything is in working order.

Finally got the car home today. And for those guys questioning my fatherly decisions.....relax. I'm far from an idiot and would never put my son in harms way. He'll be doing multiple track days with me and I have several years experience. He's not jumping in the car tomorrow....he'll be wrenching on it alongside me, learning about car control and various other car dynamics, maintenance, etc. I'm a car guy period and my son has a lot of interest. He's a straight "A" student and will be trained and educated greater than most any young driver out there. This goes for my daughter as well. Both kids are going to professional driving schools taught by race car drivers. My last two cars were a 640hp CTS-V Coupe and a 650hp C6Z06 that was track prepped.....so yeah, I kind of know what's up. Now that I have that out of the way, I appreciate any knowledge that I can gain from the very people that spend hours with their Subarus. This is the first one I have ever purchased and look forward to intelligent conversation (if it truly exists).

And for the record.....I'll be driving the STi on track until I feel my son is capable. Who knows how long that may be. He'll be driving a Miata as a first track car.

Just got ours home tonight after a three hour drive.

A few of my older track cars-

Abacus is awesome. I dropped my heads off to have the valves tipped and they were done the next day. Now I need a new headgasket since I already had the heads torqued. Nonetheless..I see the light at the end of the tunnel.. Over a year since I started planning the build now

I have a 5dmkii, 60d with 24-70mm F2.8L II, 100mm Macro L F2.8 IS, 17-40mm L F4.0, 40mm F2.8 STM. I was a photographer before I joined the navy and learned how to shoot on a 35mm SLR when I was 14.

But basically, yeah you're right.

Oh, so you're a tough guy, huh?

Look at my e-peen with my Canon 5D and 60D with the latest and bestest according to dpreview 24-70mm f/2.8L lens mark 2! TWO! That's like when Iron Man 1 came out and then Iron Man 2 came out. The second one was obviously better than the first one and everyone in the world agreed so that's why I went to go see it in theaters. In 3D. Twice.

If I could've gotten my hands on a mki I would've bought it.
The II has a few more elements and is lighter.. They're both amazing lenses but the II bloody expensive.

And I didn't think being a camera nerd made you a tough guy.

It's not like I came in here saying I have a new Leica M or something ;-)
