Default Maintenance schedule, need your opinion!

Alright, I bought my WRX 2012 early March with 6200miles on it, next maintenance stop is around 12000miles. After reading I realize that with the WRX or STi better not wait for the typical 6200miles before doing an oil change... people said do it around 4000miles...so now I am at 8700miles and I have a roadtrip in about less then a month, its a road trip of around 1200miles should I do my oil change before or after?

Oil changes are cheap insurance for the life of your motor. Not knowing the history of the vehicle before you purchased it, get the oil change done before your trip and you won't have to worry about it!

What this guy said.
Anytime I've bought a used car/bike, the first thing I do is a fluid change. Even if I bought it from a used car dealer. You don't have a whole lot to worry about, as the car is still almost brand new and under warranty. But I'd do an oil change now-ish, and then just follow the schedule thereafter.

As mentioned, an oil change should cost you $50 or less. if you have to do a additional ones sooner than normal, so be it. Cost of owning a vehicle. Better that than a blown engine.

Change your oil. 4,000 miles is a nice even number to shoot for

I shoot for about 4k. I've done this will all my cars for the most part. I've done 6k in my old NA Outback... not like it's going to kill the motor or anything.

For my WRX.. the oil takes more abuse, running hotter and with autocross. I change it at about 4k.

Subaru kills me with their most recent service interval on oil changes. They say you can go 7500 miles between oil changes but, they also say it is normal to use up to 1 qt of oil per 1200 miles. So if your car uses that amount of oil then you would be out of oil before your oil change is due.

I still change mine every 3500-3700. It is much cheaper then a short block or turbo replacement. Just my .02 cents

Hey Chris, my STi never used to consume oil, but now I consume about 3/4 quart every thousand miles ever since my tune. Do you think my tune is in correlation with my oil consumption? I guess my car is still within normal oil consumption parameters, but I'm just hoping it's nothing to worry about. Thanks.

This. I change at 3500 for the exact same reason.
