Whats done to the car? Any aftermarket parts or is it all stock? This is a common code for stage 2 cars without a proper tune. This is also in the 2.0L thread and your profile says you have a 2007 WRX. Is this problem on your 2007 or a different car?

posting from your phone is no excuse to keep not giving us all the details.

you have an aftermarket exhaust with no tune, that is what is giving you that code. Get the car tuned if you don't want the code.

^Thanks prick. The I use my app on my phone was the reason I only have 1 car listed on my account, not aware if there's a way to add multiple cars on the computer because I know the site is almost completely different, not from keeping you from knowing the facts. If you get agitated because I asked a question you answered before here's an idea, scroll past my post.

Thanks for the info anyways.

The exhaust is 3" speed tech from the downpipe and has been on the car for over a year and I'm just now throwing the code.

"From the downpipe"... so does that include the downpipe? lol.

If it does, most likely you're throwing the code because you don't have a cat and the car is just figuring this out... which seems odd.

I think you're referring to a catback and stock cat/downpipe. If so, with an 02, the cat's probably done. Time to go stage 2!

Wasn't trying to be an a hole, but how can you expect people to give you an accurate answer to your problem without giving us the full details of your car. Example: I have "said car" and I have "any model downpipe" and "any model cat back" and here is my problem. Sorry if you took my response in a negative way. Hope you figure out your issue.

Search. When you make a thread asking "what needs to be fixed?" It seems that you are unwilling to put in the foot work to educate yourself and fix it right. We also can't guess what mods are or are not on the car, nor how many miles.

P0420 is simple.
-Needs a tune because of downpipe change
-Needs new o2 sensor (bank 2 aka one in downpipe post cat)
-Needs to cat in downpipe because old one is shot

These are your 3 indicatitors for that code. Start small, so if you don't have an aftermarket downpipe, then replace the o2 sensor. If you still have it after that, replace the downpipe.

Any more spoons to be filled?
