She was just easing you into the price bracket of the Tribeca.

Porsche Panamera (or whatever the hell it's called). I've heard it's a great car, but I hate it on principle. Same goes with the Cayenne and any other 4-door Porsche. And, in that vein: The 4-door Jeep Wranglers. They've turned Porsche and Jeep into "family" oriented cars to allow middle aged men (and Asian women) to own their "dream" cars and yet still be able to drive their kids to soccer practice. To me, that's the epitome of a company selling out.

Actually... To follow that up: I also can't stand the new Mercedes-Benz GLK and any pickup truck that isn't capable of "working" (IE: oversized wheels, too little sidewall, too much chrome, etc.).

Hahah, I drive one of them daily and probably one of the more reckless ones out there. What can I say? I drive it like I drive my Subaru.

I drove ours (bro and I bought it in June 2012, sold it in Sept.) on an 800 kilometer round trip from Vancouver to Lake Skaha. Winding mountain roads and crazy crosswinds are not the Smart car's strong suit. It was the WORST experience I've ever had. It could barely make it up any minor grades at altitude, nor could it handle crosswinds that most cars shrugged off. I was sent crab-walking into the oncoming lane a few times thanks to the stupid winds and the side profile of the car along with it's light weight.

The worst part though, was that the AC was broken. Riding with the windows and top down nerfed the crosswinds a bit, but combined with no radio, it was just...ugh. Even with sunscreen, I was sunburned well before we even got to the campsite, and we were staying there for a week *just* for the sun.

Anyway, it's not a bad car for city jaunts and inner town stuff, I actually loved darting around in it, and I made it from halfway up Landsdowne in Coquitlam to my house in Maple Ridge in 12 minutes at 3am in that thing - it's got some pep at sea level. But if you do any sort of driving outside of the city, it's just not a good car to own. I had driven quite a few of them when I worked for VW, but never had any long-term tests, this really put it in perspective for me.

I used to do a LOT of IT work for the local SMART dealer.. The customer profiling on those cars is almost as bad as the sti/wrx in terms of the same people buying that particular car.

In our case, "nerds and asians" really nails it, for SMART owners, "LOLWUT" really nails it.

I mean really, it's a 2-door diesel golf cart with freaky styling, go figure the owner base is going to be a certain type.

I've got nothing against hybrid or electric cars (it's usually the self-righteous and self-entitled owners I can't stand), but I find the idea of hybrid SUV's to be a funny one. The concept of using a hybrid engine in an SUV to save gas is ridiculous enough as it is (seriously, buy a smaller car if you're that concerned about gas), but the worst part is all these advertisements that promote the whole "eco-friendly" aspect of a hybrid engine, even though they're putting it in a 6,000 lb box with the aerodynamics of a loaf of bread.

The same reason why everyone buys into the hybrid = "I love the environment" crap. And some of them are educated people too. I guess what is done is done [by the manufacturer] so they are not to blame. It's all about image and nothing more.

You guys are all insane about the SUV hate. I'm a driver at heart, I own and always will own a sports car (Currently a 02WRX & BMW645C) but a SUV is just so useful and fun.

I use the SUV every weekend to pack with friends and go somewhere: Boating, hiking, house parties, bars and not to mention its the best road trip vehicle ever.

On top of that the SUV is my tow vehicle and used to take the dogs out of the house.

I commute two hours with a ferry involved once a week and honestly i would prefer to be sitting relaxing on the ferry in the Yukon over the BMW any day, its like a big couch. Unfortunately once downtown i no longer want the SUV so it doesn't come to work with me.

Also girls love SUV's, im always disappointed they want to take the Yukon over the convertible.

A note on the green environmental car debate above. I test drove the Tesla Model S a month back and it was hands down the best most innovative car i have ever driven and I own three V8s and love the smell of gas in the morning. I really believe when i change my vehicles up again ill be going that route.

Most hated: Commercial vehicles, all of them. They smell bad, block my way and toss rocks up on the paint. Second most hated Chrysler 300s and their stereotypical drivers.

You know, after reading your post, and trying to come up with a reply to say why I don't hate SUV's, I've realized the following: I don't hate cars as much as I hate people. While I will agree that some aren't the prettiest of the bunch (Aztec), and some are really only useful in certain situations (Smart Car), I can see the benefits of all of them. My issue lies with the people who buy these cars for (in my opinion) stupid reasons.

As for Tesla: I'm all for high-performance electric vehicles... It's the way of the future, and I'm just waiting for battery technology to get good enough so I can build an electric vehicle with a reasonable range.

And for the commercial vehicles: I know what you mean, but they serve a purpose. Without them, we'd have to drive out to factories or train stations if we wanted to get gas or parts for our cars.

This might be the future of longer range lighter and more powerful electric vehicles right here!!
