Default Spied: BMW Trots Out Sportier M235i Coupe for Testing at the 'Ring

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/05/spi...ier-m235i.html

Quote:
Here's another look at BMW's 1-Series Coupe successor, the new 2-Series Coupe that will likely arrive in showrooms sometime next year. The model seen in these scoop shots is the M Performance version of the series named the M235i.
Since it is based on the F20 1-Series hatchback, it won't come to as a surprise to learn that the M235i shares both its performance and styling mods with the M135i.

What this means is that under the hood, there's BMW's latest 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six rated for 316bhp (320PS) at 5,800rpm and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of peak torque from 1,300 to 4,500rpm, paired to a standard six-speed manual or an optional 8-speed automatic driving the rear wheels. Since BMW does offer its all-wheel drive xDrive system on the M135i, we could see the same option available for the M235i as well.

Expect a sub 5.0-second run for the 0-60mph or around 5.0 seconds for the 0-100km/h, and a limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).

Just like the sports hatchback, the coupe model will feature a tweaked suspension and bigger brakes, along with a host of styling upgrades such as the M-branded alloy wheels, bumpers, side skirts, sport seats and steering wheel, and interior trim.

Can't wait to see a de-camo'd 2-Series. The M235i is definitely out of my range, but I think the 228i is going to be a fun car with the N20 engine.

I also can't wait. I loved the previous 1 series for it being close to the older e36. The only thing killing BMW's for me now is their price for how much luxury/tech they have relative to the rest of the market below them. My 1992 e36 had a nicer looking and more tech advanced interior than my mom's 2003 altima. They aren't on that level of being "ahead of times" any more, but are still about the same price difference.

Still think this should be the junior 6-series.

Full fastback like the X6 and X4, with the lift back, Longer, lower 6-coupe roofline, and an old-school front fascia with the hood line further forward and back-canted grille, like a 2002, or E24 6-series.

A new, significantly sleeker 2002tii-Touring successor. (more fastback, less horizontal roof...)

With this sort of roofline.

I hope the 228i gets a manual option. The N20 makes great power. Early rumors were auto-only on that model for the US market.

A 2L diesel in the 2-series would also be something I would consider, except for the price.

That would be tragic and I would no longer look forward to its release.

They didn't release a concept that looks entirely separated from the 1 series platform and/or claim it was going to be separate from the 1 series. Subaru could have just kept their mouth shut and never made the comment about it being separated (it seems only in terms of it not having the impreza name on the badges it wears) and none of that would have happened. BMW did it right :P.

I also do not like the blinker stalks, they look the same as in the 1 series. This is 100% more than the 1 series, that being a 2 series. I fully expect 100% of the performance... They failed. THey will surely go out of business soon. They have betrayed their customers and lost their niche.

So nice of you to look out for the welfare of all the noobs in this forum Len.

You deserve an internet High Five... keep up the great work.

I do not think you give noobs enough credit. They can sense sarcasm or at least bad comedy.

At the very least, I was doing them a public service. They should know that NASIOC is full of whiners and complainers.

Fix'd. Wow forums, Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, basically every car or political forum. They all have whiners and wieners. I'm usually one of them . Internet is too much fun to vent to, and better than doing it to my girlfriend (I wish I could get her hooked on it instead of me LOL!).

What I don't understand...what did BMW do?

The original 135i offered here was essentially an "M135" then? Underrated 300 HP N54, "MSport" () package, etc.

So now they use the cheaper engine, eliminate the "Msport" options as offered on the 135i and still charge more for it as a base 235?

Then they introduce the "M235i" which is hardly more than the original 135i w/sport package was (in fact, could be considered worse with the N55) and charge a butt-load more for it?

C/N: What is a difference between this M235 and the original 135i/sport package, besides the price tag?

C/NII: All this watered down "M" **** is ridiculous.

"Oh, but mine is an M sport." = bragging out overpaying on what is a base car with a sports pacakge. Just another way for them to make money.

I don't disagree with you on the M-line bull****, but where are you getting the data? I don't see it in the article snip and my work blocks carscoop . BMW's site also doesn't have the 2 series yet.

S-line, M-line, R-line. They all need to die, because they're all just marketing gimmicks to push the pricing tiers higher. Can't wait for the day the m3 is an 80k sports car lol. It was such an awesome performance bargain from the e46 and prior.

And if they make an M2 I bet it would have lots of fender flare, look at a 1m series coupe, huge wheel flares.

What are you being so sensitive about?

You made some sarcastic comments that were very contextual, AllAWD had to spell it out for Brahmzy (who is clearly not a noob), and I thought the situation was pretty funny. Surely people other than you can make little sarcastic comments around here no? Nonetheless my comment wasn't even directed at you, or meant as a criticism of you. So chill out.

What data are you talking about? I didn't think I mentioned any data.

Only thing I said was the M235 is essentially the equivalent to the orginal U.S. 135i w/sport package, plus a nice bump in price (look at the price of a "135is" now). Not only that, but it's running the cheaper N55, not the N54 of the 1M/08-10 135i.

And as for the S-line, etc. uggg..Audi one-upped BMW. They made the upgraded engine in each model line the "S". So now the S4 is the equivalent model to the previous A4 3.2. That's like calling a 335 an M3. Then made S-line cars. That's like calling a regular 328 an M328.

The "S" cars aren't -special- anymore. Just expensive. The RS's are the old S's.

All in an effort to blur lines ebtween what were factory motorsports tuned cars, and the junk their putting out now.

BMW should be ashamed of itself for the new M5. I really think the new M3 is going to be received much the same way. Fast, bloated, and isolated.

Jesus christ, the parts-bin 1M might be the last legit driver's machine they ever make, and that's not something to be proud of

Subaru making a more rewarding car to drive than BMW...who would have thought.

So to recap, Scrappy made sarcastic remarks in the context of the debacle that is the new WRX thread, you made a sarcastic remark in response pretending like you didn't get it, and then AllAWD didn't get that you got it, so he tried to spell it out to you, and then I also didn't get that you got it so I made a sarcastic remark about how "in-crowd" the jokes were, and then Scrappy didn't like AllAWD and my comments, so in explaining what I wrote I said you didn't get it, and now you are spelling it out to me that you in fact have gotten it all along.

Ok, that clears it up. I'm still worried that this thread may not be confusing enough for noobs. Also BMW.
