Default Jaguar Trademarks Q-Type and XQ Names – SUV On its Way?

Carscoops: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/05/jag...-xq-names.html

Quote:
Despite denying reports that it was working on and planning to launch an SUV, Jaguar has just registered the names "Q-Type" and "XQ" with the EU trademark office. Is it a case of better safe than sorry (in terms of name) or is Jaguar secretly developing an SUV or crossover-style model(s)?
Well, we don't know yet but if they are, they do have access to any Land Rover tech, which means that their off-roader would actually be a capable one. If it’s image and tradition you’re concerned about, let us remind you just how big of a success story the Porsche Cayenne is – it was a much bigger departure for Porsche, than an off-roader would be for Jaguar.

Sources quoted by Pistonheads suggest that if this were to materialize, the Jag SUV would be based on the same underpinnings as the Range Rover Evoque, so its engines would not be bigger than three liters, and the norm would be the familiar two-liter petrol and diesel engines, already used in the baby Range.

Time will tell if this is more than just pure speculation, but I honestly see no reason for Jaguar not to do it, as they would boost sales in this crossover-crazy world, and make more money, while attracting “younger buyers” at the same time.

Stupid.

That is what Land Rover and Range Rover are for.

Diluting Jaguar isn't going to help.

How about building your current models with more stone-cold reliability?

like Porsche diluted their lineup with their Cayanne...

Yeah, that did not work out at all..

Porsche didn't have a paired existing SUV brand.

VW became the twin, because it is pretty much a Touareg underneath with a Porsche badge and tuning.

Land Rover and Range Rover overlap as it is, and a Jaguar CUV will just add more redundancy... in a brand family that isn't known for building their vehicles very reliably anymore.

Maybe before a third variant of the Land Rover and Range Rover lines, they should bolster their reliability, and keep Jaguar building cars, as intended.

Is there going to be a Range Rover full size sedan re-body of the XJ, next?

Somehow Subaru can't be expected to be more diverse where there are holes in the marketplace that it could capitalize on, but Yeah... Jag can be triple redundant with it's in-house SUV brand, no problem with that, right?

Hip, if Jag builds an SUV, it will be the best selling vehicle they have... and they will make huge fat profits off of it.....

I PROMISE YOU THAT.

Jaguar and Land Rover/Range Rover are one company already, owned by TATA.

What about that is so hard to understand about that, since you still don't get it?

That is like saying that CHRYSLER really needs to build SUVs and Trucks, regardless of Jeep or RAM existence. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM are all one company, owned by FIAT.

Chrysler and Jaguar don't market SUVS, because they ALREADY HAVE a brand for that.

ANd yet, if the Jag SUV comes out, it will make a ton of money...

It does not matter what you say. That is a fact, and here is why. When Jag makes an SUV it will look amazing and have an immaculate interior that will make the driver feel like he is in a very special car. If ever there is a car company that can design and make a sexy SUV, it will be Jag. (Note this is only because Aston martin does not make one)

I know the logic tree you are kicking Hip, but this is not about logic. This is about taking sales away from Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW. And they will succeed.

So how does Infiniti feel about Jaguar using those nameplates with their new Q and QX lineup?

That's what I was going to say.

Is Q the new R or S? Why not just give cars names again.

You know that is a good point right there. Everything goes full circle.
At one time everybody jumped on the alpha-numeric themes, but I think as time goes on, people will get back to names, and it be hailed as marketing brilliance when that happens.

I for one would love to see a rebirth of Acura with names. Integra, Legend, etc.

Another point is that Audi has been using Q as their SUV designator, whereas Infiniti decided to use it for everything they got. Now, that report is connecting these new registered names to a potential SUV because... the letter Q seems to suggest an SUV thanks to Audi? I suppose one could say that the only thing left for Jaguar to make is a cross-over, so a new name must mean that, but I'm not so sure. Maybe they are planning a midsize coupe or something, no?

I can already see all the confusion between the three models. Can't wait to see the magazine comparison headline, "Q5 vs. XQ vs. QX60...Any Questions?". So much for exclusivity.

It is getting to the point of just saying F_Q to them all.

It's Jag/Land Rover isn't it. They already have a dedicated brand for SUV's. I'm sure it makes economical sense as they can re-skin a Range Rover and sell more units.

The reason it worked for Porsche is they only had 2 seat cars and people wanted a Porsche but needed to fit actual people in the back.

Now you can get your land rover with less land Roverness, yay....

They should have just brought over the XF wagon and fast tracked the 3 series fighter.
