Default 08+ wrx/sti any way to have the HVAC knobs stay lit when key is on

i recently painted the silver rings on my HVAC knobs black to match my interior and unfortunately it has made it difficult to determine where the small red indicator is located during the day.

would anyone know how to wire it so i can have it on when the key is in the ignition

I had plans to paint mine as well. I was going to take a small piece of red vinyl and cut it to shape and stick it on. I guess it might not light up at night then though...

when you take the ring's off you can pop the red portion off. it ended up coming out perfectly as far as looks and the red plastic is still visible. the problem is the black ring with the dark red plastic indicator is hard to see at a glance in the day with sunglasses on

The climate controls will have an illumination input, you can just cut that and run your own from IGN power. Check FSM for the wires/pins.

The problem I see if you do that, is the CC illumination won't be on the circuit that is dimmed with the dash light dimmer, might be annoying at night and look funny. You'd have to get fancy to devise a circuit that would switch between your 12v feed when lights are off, and then over to the stock illumination when the lights are on. You could do that with one SPDT relay.
