I guess it's all depend on what you are looking for in a car. I own a 2013 Sport Limited Hatch for 10k miles. You can't complaint too much for that price. It's like a poor man's Audi. And don't get the NAV, it's garbage for the $1000 option. The leather seats in mine are actually pretty good. I don't have any complaint on those. The road noise is noticeable when up to highway speed. If you owned a Civic SI, then you won't find the Impreza noisy, because the road noise in the SI is LOUD compare to the Impreza. But it's nosier than a Prius.Only major complaint for me is the MPG, it does hit 36mpg on highway if you drive around 60MPH, but any kind of local or mix driving, mpg is down to the high 20's. No comparison there if you had a Prius. So if you drive in the city and MPG is your major consideration, beware of that. I considered the GTI, Mazda3 and the Ford Focus. but for it's price and function, I chose the Impreza. AWD or not, it still a great economic car. but the AWD is great, esp in rain and snow.

I find the non-leather seats in my Sport Premium to be quite comfortable. But I'm a 155-lb, 5' 8" guy, so maybe I just fit them better than some others.
Yeah - tempted. I read where Subaru used the Mazda 3 as a yardstick for handling; wonder why they didn't include the 19" bar stock.

I think they are all great cars, i feel really depends on which interior/exterior you like more, awd vs fwd, and if a few mpgs matter alot or not to you...I have driven all of them and think they all drive great and subjectively look great in their own way. The focus has the good euro styling, I like that the 3 looks as happy as you are when your driving, and the impreza has a unique agressive look. On a side note...has anyone notices the stock focus infotainment center resembles the old nokia phones?

Some people say that the center stack controls on the Focus look like a transformer face. That I can see. Also, you are right with the old school Nokia phones.

I tried really hard to get back into a conventional car. I test drove cars from econoboxes to luxury cars. It looks like I am getting back into another Prius. I have been driving a hybrid for so long and paying for gas is hard. It's the car for me for now. I like having a hatchback for versatility. There just aren't a lot of options in hybrid form. I looked at the Lexus CT200h. It's just too small. I decided on a Prius Plug-In and that will help my commute with the single person HOV sticker. Also, a tax credit and a CA rebate will be nice also.

I cross-shopped the Impreza Sport Premium, Focus SE, and Mazda3 with the new Skyactiv engine.

The Focus' center stack, plus the sinking feeling that the car wouldn't hold its value and be reliable, were what kept me from buying the Focus.

The Mazda's front end, and dated interior, are what kept me from buying the Mazda3.

I've been very happy with my Impreza, although it needed a few mods to keep me from missing some of the features I liked in my 2010 Golf TDI.

I looked at the TDI. It's a great compromise of MPG and fun to drive factor. But, diesel is more expensive than gas. It use to be the other way around. Clean diesel cost more than the black soot diesel in the past I suppose. It excels in highway driving. But, doesn't do much good in the city than a regular car. I loved the torque of the diesel though.

I am ragging the crap out of this rental to get some fun, albeit whatever fun you can have in a Corolla. Before I get back to my mundane driving in a Prius. Which is better for my aggressive driving.

^^My only problem with my 2010 TDI was its brutal unreliability. And that's a big problem.

All those buttons and gizmos are one of main things I hate about fords. The fiesta's dash is a mess too.

When I test drove a 2013 Focus, the car salesman focused on the dash features and gizmos which I didn't care about. When I test drove the Subaru (and bought that day), the salesman hardly said a word when I was driving. The AWD sold itself.

The impreza's dash is simple, and easy to get to everything. Reminds me a little of the dash on my 92' Integra. The only thing I don't like about the new impreza's dash is the ugly spot where the passenger front airbag sits. You can see a slightly discolored rectangle on the dash. That and the rattling suck. I couldn't deal with all the buttons and the funky layout in the fords.

My only complaint about the Impreza's controls is where they put the seat heater switches. Very dumb design.

Apparently Subaru designers figured that out themselves, since these switches are repositioned in front of the shifter on the new Forester.

Hi all,

I am new to the Subie community and have a 2013 2.0i Sport Limited in the dark gray metallic. Coming from a Prius, I am used to the lag in acceleration with the CVT but thank god for the paddle shifters on my Impreza! I have to say, my Prius was VERY noisy on the road but it could have been partially my tires. My Subie so far is less noisy, the leather seats are more comfortable, and despite the drop in MPGs I LOVE my car. I compared the Sub to the Focus for a long time, and the ultimate deciding factor for me was the AWD. I agree with the ridiculous placement of the seat heater controls, and I dislike the center console and how if it slides forward with some drinks it will spill them ha. But those are petty dislikes, and no car is perfect. Looking forward to some day upgrading to a WRX!
