Default Upgrade from Auto-Dim mirror to Auto-Dim with Homelink

So when we bought our XV we didnt have a house with a garage so we just went with the regular auto-dim mirror without the homelink. Now we're buying a new home that will have a garage and i would like to upgrade to the auto-dim with the homelink so i dont have to keep an ugly garage door opener in the car. does anyone know if this is just a simple swap since we already have the regular auto-dim, or are there additional wires for the auto-dim with homelink

Should be a straight swap. Assuming it's the same as the wrx, they share the same plug.

im going to assume that all of the Subaru mirror plugs are the same regarless of model. i doubt they would have different mirror plugs for different models. I just wasnt sure if there was additional wiring in there for the homelink

Homelink is self contained, it just needs power to work which is already present at the mirror so there is no additonal wiring.

Really all you need to be concerned with is that the accessory you do buy, is compatible with the 2013 XV. All the Subarus are wired for all the mirrors that Subaru sells for them.

So what you're saying is that not all auto-dim mirror plugs are created equal and that if I decide to buy a non-Subaru brand homelink mirror that I should check the compatibility of the plug?

Well Subaru doesnt manufacture the mirrors. Gentex does.
I believe the older subarus used Donnelly mirrors.

this website below has some Gentex model information:
http://www.wembleysells.com/mirrorte...Comparison.htm

I bought a used Gentex-453 off ebay for $50

you already have the base, harness cover, and wires... all you should need is the mirror.

do you know if theres a newer version of the Gentex mirror? The one in my 2013 XV doesnt have a little window for the compass. the compass just appears behind the mirror.

i've seen them without the window but customized to be that way.

or this:

mito corp also sells aftermarket but not like the ones pictured in the subaru accessory catalogs

It's def not either of those. It doesn't look like anything is there when the car is off but when you turn the car on the direction appears. It's def the XV stock auto dim mirror. I'll have to look at the model number.

That is 100% it. If you argue with me you should just die. Look on the subaru parts website if you don't believe me.

http://is.gd/IE3i9D

that's the page for the 2012 which has the same mirror as the 2013.

No not at all. What I was saying, is what mirror you have in the car now is irrelevant. If you buy the homelink mirror from Subaru that fits your XV, it will install fine. If Subaru says it fits, you car has whatever is needed to install it. No need to concern yourself with plugs and wires, Subaru accessories are plug and play.

The suggestions by others to buy aftermarket mirror is a not a bad idea either. Just be aware you take more responsiblity to make sure you buy the right part. But basically two mfrs make these mirrors, Gentex and Donelley and the connectors are usually the same or similar.

Recap - Guaranteed fit: Buy Subaru Accessory. Do some research for yourself, and save a few bucks: buy generic Gentex mirror.
