The touchscreen is slow to respond and the menus are enigmatic at best. Essentially a good idea has been totally murdered by poor software. It's so bad the no jailbreaking could possible fix it. It's just wrong from the ground up.

I had to root my android and use arliberator for the radio to really be worth it. Since using arliberator it opens up so much more potential for this radio

I just installed the appradio 2 a few days ago. I've had zero problems. I used my wives iphone and it was boring. When I hooked up my android based phone it's tons better.

Plus I got the radio for 275 at best buy on sale right now.

I can see why people who haven't done their research would be upset by the AppRadio 2. Without a phone attached, it's capabilities are quite limited.

This is why i stretched the budget a bit and picked up the AVH-X8500BHS i've been noting in the thread.

After a few days with the radio i'm quite impressed. the touch screen is pretty responsive, xm works awesome, SD card is handy, and the bluetooth speakerphone is fantastic.

The SD Card has been a little flakey, but better after i put some serious time in updating the ID3 tags and making sure there weren't any special characters in the file names (what, i like japanese music?) or tag data. App radio mode has been excelent when working. ARLiberator works great, but is a little finike with this radio and the order you do things in. Make sure ARLiberator is running, start the car, and then connect the HDMI cable seems to have the best results. It's pretty awesome being able to use TuneIn Radio and stream some of my favorite shoutcast stations right on my screen. Streaming Youtube also is pretty entertaining, and the Google music interface translates excellently to the radio interface.

My iPod is ancient, and pretty much lives in my racecar, so i probably won't be buying the cable to run that. i may test out a thumb drive with some video down the road.

all in all, i'm pretty happy. i haven't come across a situation where i'm disappointed i didn't buy one with nav yet, as the few days I've been playing with it were all just around town. but google maps did look nice right up on the screen.

I actually have both right now. I bought the 1st one because it was so cheap, but there are alot of limitations that I dont like:

•Cant turn display off at all
•No adjustment for dimmer feature, so screen is either too bright in the night, or to dim in the day.
•without an ipod/iphone hooked up, you are limited to the radio only
•cannot change the background colors besides your choice of black or white.
•Only 2 RCA out connections

So I picked up the AppRadio 2, because it is supposed to resolve most of the above issues. I plan on using the ARLiberator App with my Note II

I use arliberator with mine and my nexus and it works great. I can do everything from youtube to music. I am looking into possibly modding it into a car pc because the shell is there.

You really can't run a subwoofer with this HU? Beginning to regret my purchase and it's not even installed...

* The AppRadio SPH-DA01 and SPH-DA02 models only have 1 pair of line-level out RCA jacks. You can use those for EITHER a subwoofer or main speakers.

* The AppRadio SPH-DA100 model has 2 pairs of line-level out RCA jacks. One pair is always the front main speaker outs. The 2nd pair is either rears or subwoofer.

You'll need to check with Pioneer (or someone who has confirmed this), but on some HUs when you switch the RCAs to be sub outs, the corresponding speaker output wires also become sub outs. From the owner's manuals, it looks like that is the case on all of the AppRadio models.

Figure i should update this since i have the Appradio2 installed.

I installed appliberator on my Note2, and its been awesome. Sometimes takes a minute or two to connect, but otherwise a great solution for those of us who really want a customizable experience. I just did a 4 hour drive, had netflix going the whole time (for the passengers of course).

While I was at it, I replaced all the speakers with a full alpine setup, i ran the RCAs to the amps, then used the RCA out on the 4ch amp to chain into another amp for the subs. I also grabbed the radio controls from the column of a SVT focus and modded it into the steering wheel column, so now i have volume and track controls at the tips of my fingers (see 3rd pic).

Im quite pleased with the setup. Here are some pics (dont worry, the car and cables got cleaned up)

For those of you dogging the AppRadio - RESEARCH!

I had been looking for something like this for MONTHS! I wanted my phone screen on my double din display, and NO ONE made one (with the exception of the cheap ebay chineses stuff, which sometimes get good reviews.)

Anything your phone can do you can do on the screen!! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for, FINALLY!

I've got mine to where it works perfectly, no issues whatsoever (other than my POS Rezound gets pretty hot - this has been a phone issue since I got it.)

I had actually purchased a Nexus 7 to install like the thread here, but there were just too many issues - how to get sound out, bluetooth, reverse backup camera...etc.
This was the perfect solution for me, and I think going forward it will gain popularity since the AppRadio 3 is now out with even more features (hardware wise.)

If anyone has any further questions about this setup, please let me know, I'd be happy to help as this was a very long time coming for me...

FORGOT TO ADD THIS!!!........

TORQUE PRO!!!! You can have FULL ACCESS to all of your OBDII data (and more) via a blue-tooth dongle. There's a YouTube video showing this exact thing, it's freaking amazing. I have a JDM ECU so I haven't been able to connect to mine, but once I get a new OBD Key with SSM I should be good to go!

Anyone have any actual hands on with the Appradio 3 yet? I know it hasn't been released to the public yet but figured someone may have seen a prototype in person or something. I want to Pre-order it but just want to be sure before I tie up $400 until some unidentified date in July.

Are you planning on running ARLiberator? Or just as is?

It really isn't much of a hardware upgrade and is not yet compatible with ARL, so something to think about if that's the route you want to go.

Speculation is that the new firmware for the APR3 will be able to be ran on the 2.

What's interesting is that it will be $100 cheaper than the outgoing iteration and for the same price you can get the one with cd and DVD player.

Outputs are the same as well as screen resolution.

If you're not running ARL then I'd get it vs. the outgoing model just for the new tech and firmware.

Good luck!

Just running it with an iPhone. I was just hoping someone had a hands on with the new firmware to see if the speed improved.

Well, just pre-ordered Appradio 3. I'll let you know how it is whenever it shows up. Supposed to be sometime in July.

I'm thinking about getting the appradio 2 and using arliberator with it. Only concern I have is i don't have a unlimited data plan (only 2gb per month). Is anyone else using a appradio with a similar data plan?

Looks like vendors are expecting the SPH-DA210 next week but the ship date for the SPH-DA110 is still unknown. Might just have to upgrade to the 210 but I really never use CDs and would hate to pay an extra $100 for something I don't use!

You shouldn't have to worry about your limited data plan, you could store all of your music locally on an sd card and not ever have to stream anything. Streaming netflix or dish network like I do would of course eat through data pretty quick. I'm just over 12gb this month!

It's no different than what you normally use.

And just to clarify, in case you are confused, you are not using to connect to the AppRadio, it simply is using your hdmi out. That seems kind of obvious but having a wife who is a complete tech retard, I sometimes have to dumb it down (no offense.)

Very nice! ABT is local so it was another big chunk of $$ for tax. For a couple days they messed up and were selling the 210 for $399. Should have jumped on that even with the tax!
