Default Coolant leaking from water pump hose?

I noticed a rather large puddle after driving a short distance today and when I looked under the car it seemed to be leaking from a hose coming from the water pump? I am not sure if the hose or clamp is bad? Or possibly the water pump? I had the water pump replaced with the timing belt about 30k ago. I was able to move the clamp rather easily after compressing it.

I got a new tight clamp on the hose where it looked like it was leaking from but that wasn't the problem. Seems like it it leaking from somewhere higher up because I was also getting drips on the jack where I jacked it up right in the middle. Any ideas where to look?

With no replies and 65 views; I might as well throw something out there

A new water pump is what makes me not understand the leak, as thats the only source of coolant in that area I know of. However, I did just have to replace the thermostat gasket on my WRX. Fixed my leak right up.

Any coolant on the metal part right next to the lower radiator hose? there is a seam from that pipe to the actual water pump - and the thermostat is inside that. Also, check the other hose clamps - those were a source of a couple leaks for me too. I like to use those screw tight clamps.

Could be a very tiny crack in the hose too, especially if the hose was being messed with while replacing the pump.

I bet it is a cracked hose. You can sort of see it under the clamp.

It may be the hose. When we do timing belts its common for the 3 hoses attached to the water pump to tear. It may have a tear at the end under the hose clamp.

Got the hose off and it was a pain. There was a slit in it, nothing major, and put a new one one. The car still continued to leak after refilling the coolant.

I am assuming its a bad gasket? It doesn't seem like the coolant is coming from the weep hole from the water pump and since it leaked while it was cold, while I was filling the coolant. Would that pretty much lead to a bad gasket? I heard its pretty rare for them to go bad?

I will most likely take it somewhere tomorrow. I know someone who most likely will work on it, if not, I will try and get in touch with Sean in the area.

Did you put a new clamp as well? Do you know if its the metal oem gasket or the paper gasket that normally come with the water pumps?

Yep, new clamps as well. Used the screw clamps that aren't a pain.

I had someone replace the timing belt and all that jazz along with the water pump about 30k ago. He didn't use the paper thin gasket cause he said they were junk. Assuming he used a good one. He's a trustworthy guy.

I took it to a friends garage who owed me a favor since I'm pretty broke at the moment. They took at look at it today and couldn't see much just like i reported. They are going to tear it down Monday and see what they can find out. Hopefully they know what they're doing.
