yup, if you match the design and specs ... xaviar appears to be another re-branded kamak turbo just like kinugawa.

A recent Cobb customer in Austin made 350ish whp with a kinugawa (kamak) 18g on his 08 wrx. I dont remember if he was on E85 or gas. The turbos work. Even my old blouch 20g has kamak housings. Not sure about the internals, but it has held up well.

I would think a kamak td05 20g on e85 would be way above 330. I make more than that on gas with my 20g. On e85 I make over 400. But I have a ton of supporting mods.

Yeah, cobb trains their calibrators well. I still need to slap my car on Trey's dyno. I finally fixed all of my boost, vacuum, oil, and coolant leaks last night. I did a road dyno run on the way to work this morning. It read 368 whp and 408 wtq on gas. The tune is still rouugh though.

Anyone have any updates on the Kamak - Kinugawa turbos? Miles? Looking to maybe replace my fp18g with the same thing (only 8cm).

Thanks for the advice, that turbo is one of my options.

I was thinking more towards install and run some logs to verify everything is the same vs. an entire new tune.

I've been looking into the Kamak turbochargers recently. It seems they are still selling them as there is a group buy going on right now on the forum by http://www.steamspeed.com/. Anyone have any experience with the Kamak 20g on an STI recently? I know this forum is a bit dated, but I'd like to know what I can expect i power output as well as in durability. They have a no questions asked 1yr warranty, but I'm interested in knowing what experience people are having past that mark.

I don't have much to add other than I bought a kamak p18 exhaust housing and it's almost identical to the factory turbo. It is evident that there is less attention to detail in the machining in some areas though.

It's hard to know what to make of it. If they can't pay attention to detail with something as simple as a cast exhaust housing, I'm not sure I would trust their complete turbos. then again the exhaust housing isn't necessarily a precision part in many ways, so it's possible that they just cut out "unnecessary" work.

YMMV

360/380 mustang dyno KAmak 20GTX STS 8cm^2 IWG. Full stage-2, full build 6-spd swap 2011 WRX 23 psi. We are going to turn up the boost a bit, was thinking of going EWG soon, this is with Meth injection though. 1:1 HSF-3 Aquamist setup. FMIC full spool around 4100 rpm

I have been reading quite a bit on the Kinugawa turbos and think I will be going the 20g tdo6 with 8cm route. My question is will a billet wheel upgrade be worth the money. Have not seen any one that has menitioned if the upgrade is worth it??

Hi everyone, I live in the UK and I've been researching these turbos quite a lot and ended up buying one thru' the steamspeed offer on here. I'm like the OP, I enjoy experimenting and not running with the crowd.
Just thought I'd let you know what I found about them.

KAMAK are the manufacturer of these turbos, the rest, kinugawa etc are brand names. KAMAK are also OEM turbo manufacturers for a few manufacturers, the main one being Hyundai.

How they appear to operate is that the KAMAK turbos are the best turbos that the company produce, uprated actuators, compressors, turbines etc, all the best and newest parts go into the KAMAK turbo.

Kinugawa etc are there old tech designs, meaning you can pick up their turbos at a slightly lower price, however, you can specify that they are built with the latest tech, so you can have the STS turbine, or the billet compressor if you wish. Personally, I think it's quite a good setup, if a little confusing...but I think that is because they don't seem to try and force their products like most, so aren't that well known.

The parts are manufactured in Japan, compressors, housings, rotating assemblies, turbines etc and then sent off to be assembled/balanced in Thaiwan before being shipped out.

I think for 750 ($1150) delivered within 4 days, they are a great deal, so long as they do as advertised. I'll keep you guys updated with progress once the snail is nailed to my car (Saturday) and mapped (Wednesday).

Anyway here's a couple of pictures for you.

And here is my car...stock until the weekend rolls around. 2005 widetrack STi.

I got tuned with a KAMAK TD06SL2-20g a week ago on my 2011 WRX, and it made 370whp/381tq on a dynojet. Very happy with it so far, the billet compressor and sts turbine wheels are works of art.

What other mods do you have done? Stock block and internals? TMIC or FMIC? Thanks.

Nice numbers by the way.
