For those that don't know about these, consider purchasing a step drill bit. It really makes getting the proper hole size easy. You would still want to start with a small drill bit for a pilot hole.

The spoilers really look good guys!

Just want to say thank you very much for showing the steps and tips of your install. I ordered the drill bits in the exact size from mcmaster-carr as I only have ****ty drill bits and didn't want to risk new sheet metal. They were about 26 dollars shipped for the 3, 5, 9, and 12mm bits.

Thanks again and had no problems other than the annoying template curling up when cutting haha.

I just ordered one for my week old Sport. I haven't decided if I am brave enough to install my own or if I will pay to have it done (Carter in Shoreline, WA quoted me $275 for labor this morning) professionally. I don't mind a little wrench work here and there (I'll be doing the 19mm Anti Roll bar that is in the same order myself) but I'm a bit hesitant to drill into brand new bodywork.

Looks good, but since it effects airflow on the rear of the car does it affect mpg? Thanks!

It does not, at least in any significant way. I've heard that the window might get a littler dirtier, but it's gonna get dirty anyway if it is on the road.

Default Spoiler install

Just thought I'd share for continuing readers, installed my spoiler yesterday myself (2013 impreza sport), I debated for a bit if I should do it myself but decided that it couldn't be that bad. It ended up being super easy, total time was about 30min, holes drilled smoothly enough and everything cleaned up nicely. One thing to be careful about, I stripped the bolts and nuts on a few of the mounts and ended up having to go to the hardware store and retro fit some new hardware Looks great though!!

I'll second that one! Followed instructions as far a torque settings, too tight!!! Busted both center bolts that are molded into the spoiler. I thought the first one snapping was the "click" my torque wrench makes. When the second one snapped I realized what had happened. Drilled what remained of the stud out, tapped, and installed with a stainless bolt from the hardware store.

I've been checking after driving in heavy rain to see if there's any leak. Seems to be good so far.

To those with a spoiler, how tight does it sit on the hatch? Any play at all?

Sorry to bumping old thread,

Does anyone have a picture of base or premium impreza with roof spoiler installed?

I want to see how it looks without sport rails.

Thanks!

i wonder where can i bring this to have it installed professionally...I don't want to mess it up.

How much should it cost around?

I think others have been quoted at ~$200 if the dealership is willing to do it. To be honest, the holes I drilled didnt come out the cleanest, but the thing still sits perfect. Just be sure to put the primer/sealant on there.

For non-dealership Im not sure. You may be hard pressed to find someone willing to drill those holes, because if they make a mistake... well, same reason some dealerships may not even do it.

Call around?

I installed mine about a month after I got my 2012. I got a shop to put it on for 90.

Maybe that was the price people had mentioned...? I just know that for the install price I could buy the tools/materials to do it myself for less.

If you have the money to burn and dont need the tools, go for it!

Yeah, I've been quoted upwards of 200. 200 was about the lowest price offered to me to install it.

For Canadian dealerships, they quoted me $40ish for the install as they followed the Subaru Canada website install time (0.4hr) and multiplied it by their shop rate.
The only downside though is the spoiler itself costs more in Canada than in the States ($350 compared to ~$250).

I got a quote of about 400$ installed for the spoiler when I inquired after receiving my 2014 in a Quebec dealer.

They have a 0.4 install time marked on it indeed with the shop rate of about 105$ per hour.

Honestly I had that debate with myself when I got the spoiler. I just can't get over the fear that I will mess up and leaving retarded holes on the hatch. $90 for a piece of mind.
