Do you find the fairing has any effect on aerodynamics and fuel economy at all?

This for a non sport version car. I'm talking about the factory aero cross bars that mount onto rain gutters. They crushed when clamping my bike racks and are super flimsy.

Did you use this fairing with the whispbar or factory aero crossbars?

Haven't ever paid much attention to mileage lately.

Thule square bars, bought the inno as a red hot deal of ORS racks for about $35 delivered.

Ahh, my mistake! I didn't realize you were talking about those. They're not only ugly, but now I realize they're CRAP too.

Sorry man

They work fine for me. I clamped a 1upusa to them very securely and they hold on just fine with no damage to the metal. Pretty, not really, but what non-factory integrated bars are?

Sorry, I should connect my brain to my fingers before typing.

I mean no disrespect to those that have this setup. Function before fashion...

I have a set of 1upusa racks on mine - totally pancaked the bars or it was too loose and started coming off. When did you buy your oem aero bars?

Anyone tried the Thule Snowcat for their snowboards/skis?

http://www.dogfunk.com/thule-snowcat-w-locks

I don't have the cross bars and don't plan on using the roof rack for anything else other than my snowboard. I figured this would be a good option.

I stopped by REI today to look at rack bits, they are having one of their 20% off sales starting on May 17th. I think it was members only, but since membership is only $20 it's worth it. I'm looking at spending about $700 at presale prices. (and I'm already a member)

I'm new to the roof rack scene. I needed something to put a ladder on, or kayak on. I bought the bar and kayak kit from Malone. I like the kit, but the noise was unbearable. I then bought a Thule fairing for the impreza sport and it took 95% of the wind noise away. Granted, the Malone kit was $303 and the Thule kit was about $100 from my local adventure shop. But it works very well with the sport. If I did it all over again I'd probably just buy the whole Thule kit.

An update on my roof rack situation.

I have a set of 1UPUSA bike racks that smushed my factory aero bars with 30# mountain bikes swaying around.

After trying to fabricate my own (noisy) bars, I reexamined the factory bars and decided to reinforce them with rebar internally.

I proceeded to pound 2 sections in each bar and they would now hold a house on top of my car. I snagged a returned fairing from EMS for $35 and now I'm in business for cheap money in all. Boo to spending $400 on cross bars.

I got my Thule square cross bars and 2 Thule Echelon bike holders mounted on my Sport on Saturday. A couple off short trips on I-5 over the weekend hasn't shown them to be any louder than without the rack stuff on the car. I haven't tried with a bike or two up top yet to see what that does to the noise level.

I love REI and have bought a lot from them over the years - it's nice if you buy a big ticket item because you get a portion of that back at the end of the year. Pay attention though on that annual 20% off sale - often times it excludes Thule products.

You can find pretty good deals online through the thule website - If you configure your set up online it will offer you some links to online dealers at the end that can save you signifiant money.

Figured I'd add this hear are well. These are the Thule AeroBlade Edge bars - relatively new release.

I just got them and installed them the other day.

- Took me about an hour to install because their directions are like playing pictionary. Could probably install them in 15 minutes now that I know the procedure.

- They produced no additional wind noise or whistle or anything. If I didn't know they were installed I wouldnt suspect a thing.

- Make sure the end caps are really locked into place. They seemed like they were but apparently not and 1 of them blew away. Since its so new I cant find a replacement one just yet. My own stupidity

- Overall these are way better looking than all their other items and looks very OEM. Of course these are some what limited if you wanted to have multiple things on the roof since they dont extend past the rails like some of the kits do. This isnt a concern for me.

I have a new cargobox on order right now and will add pics after.

That was pretty much my experience too. Almost like they started with a legible set of instructions and added complexity, blurriness and then reduced the image size.

I know this thread is about roof racks - but has anyone tried the Thule trunk-mounted bike racks? Are they any good? Any additional insights?

I'm tempted to purchase one (if I ever get off my lazy butt and buy a bicycle ), but wanted to see if anyone had tried them with the 12+ Impreza sedan. I'm curious about fitment, concerns with surface damage of the trunk (scuffs, scratches, etc.), bike stability during transport, and security (esp. if it's relatively easy to have a bike or the rack stolen).

Example: (Disclaimer) I have no affiliation with Thule or Rack Attack
