Hi,
I was wondering if a big brake system for a wrx will fit and function properly on a 95 awd L. I just want to make sure that the master cylinders are the same and the brake lines will fit. Thanks

One possible problem that legacy777 and I were talking about is that the fluid demands of the WRX brake systems are over twice that of the standard L system. What is more, the master cylinder is 24.0mm without ABS and 25.4mm with ABS versus 26.99mm on the WRX. I have heard of many, many L/Outback Sport owners driving with a successful WRX brake conversion, but numerically, we are probably at or just beyond the limits of the stock fluid capacity.
I'm personally awaiting my rear hubs before I can do my conversion. They seem to be delivered to the wrong state... -Jon |

You could try upgrading the front calipers/rotors from an RS. They're two pot calipers and should help. Stainless steel brakelines will help too. However I don't believe they will fit under standard 13/14 inch wheels. Legacy 15 inch alloys will work. I've run them as autocross rims off and on last year.

Keeping in mind that the RS calipers and the WRX calipers are the same. The only difference is that the WRX caliper bolts on to a slightly longer bracket so it can utilize the larger rotors. I believe the brake lines in the front are different from that of a WRX and you must use the RS lines. The rears should be the same.

I just did a rear brake swap, drum to disk.
I used WRX rear hubs/knuckles. Everything lined up fine, even the e-brake cables (just need to adjust them now). I already have brakes from a Legacy turbo on the front (same as RS). So far I have not noticed any adverse effects from using these brakes with my stock master cylinder. may the stopping force be with you ![]() Team ARG! ![]() |

I'm running WRX rotors, calipers & lines up front. They fit fine. I need to get off my butt & install the SS lines. Laaaazy.
The rears (formerly drums) have knuckles from a legacy, RS rotors, RS calipers and SS lines. Nice score on the e-brake cables. I don't have one for the left side. No biggie. It's an auto. ![]() |

apparently the WRX cable are slightly longer...the e-brake works, but I have to pull it all the way up.
So no e-brake turns for me Team ARG! ![]() |

D'oh! There isn't enough play to remove the slack?
I actually got my rear WRX hubs on Thursday so I'm just waiting on some rear lines and I'll be doing my install. -Jon |
