Default End of Summer Cruise 2013 Seward Sun 10/13

Not trying to be a kill joy! Enjoy your summer! I just want everyone to to start giving it some thought. PM or post dates they WILL NOT be able to go after August. If you don't share a date then you're a "maybe". I'll have too look at the autox schedule, too, and typical weather patterns to maybe choose the best weekend. Usually the closer to October the better chance of missing rain.

I don't plan on staying in Alaska forever so I'm hoping to make this a good turnout of Old School and New World Order.

Ralph/Kiwi: I'll be contacting you to pick your brains about the trip.

More details to come. Thanks!

EDIT:

WHEN: Sunday, October 13th, 2013 @ Huffman Carrs 10AM for 11AM departure

DESTINATION: Seward, AK. At least 2 pit stops along the way, maybe 3, for photo ops and bathroom breaks. Bird Creek turn out, Turnigan Pass and Hope turn out.

ACTIVITIES: Driving, eating, SeaLife Center. Foodwise, planning on making reservations at Apollo. Here's Apollo's menu: http://www.apollorestaurantak.com/

Let me know what you want. With so many people they'll probably only prepare a few in advance, but if enough people are willing to eat the same things it'll make it easier and quicker on everyone I'm sure.

PARKING IN SEWARD: 4th Ave or SeaLife Center has ample room.

MEAL: Wherever you want, but typically as a group people meet at Apollo's. http://www.apollorestaurantak.com/ Look at the menu and tell me what you want. I'll call to give them heads up and see if it's available. I think typically we can only choose a certain few dishes to have pre-made, but I will confirm that. Otherwise you're free to eat at any of the other restaurants around town. Next to Apollo is a really nice place that I've been to a few times, plus two Asian buffets nearby.

I plan on inviting other cars, too, honestly. Different clubs can join! Bring whatever vehicle looks nice. No dumpy trucks or shotty cars would be preferred. I'll try to coordinate carpooling so some of you guys can make new friends.

I know some will be put off because they like having mostly Subarus. There's no reason why the Subarus can't just go first since Subaru guys are the ones putting this together. I'd expect the same treatment if we were asked to join a Miata cruise, Mustang cruise, Honda cruise, or whatever. I live in my own, ideal, little world though.

We usually do several photo shoots. Bring all your cameras whether you can use them well or not.

I guess we should establish which day works better for most folks? Saturday or Sunday? Some can't take time off work during the weekend AT ALL, but I know with enough heads up some of you can switch around your schedule to accommodate.

Wherever it is I'm going to complain it's too far like you guys do with Tanacross
Why the hell would someone bring a dump truck to a car cruise?! Well unless it was a bad ass hot rod dump truck.

Typically we head to Seward because it's a nice day trip with food at the end and the sealife center if you have kids. And it's a small enough town that it's just nice to walk through and visit the docks. When it's raining, though, you really don't feel like doing anything.

A pimped-out dump truck would most definitely be allowed!

In, and you don't need kids to go to the sealife center. I'm going there next month, and possibly right now, but some of us could go hike up to exit glacier instead.

Obviously you don't NEED kids to go there. It was a short-handed sentence suggestion for readers with kids.

A hike would be nice! I like that idea.

Wow! Its just now starting to feel like summer considering it snowed a few weeks ago! lol

July 4th is right around the corner and that's the half way mark for summer! Our summer is too short! Time for warmer climate year around.

Glad to see the increasing interest!

Generally we've gone on a Saturday and started early morning. With the distance and several stops along the way for bathroom breaks and photo ops, it takes a while to get down to Seward.

Some people have chosen to catch up with us later and have formed several smaller groups for the return trip home. I've seen some cool pictures from the return trips since the sun is progressively setting by then.

If the weather craps out on us for the cruise (like snow when most people still have their summer tires), what do you guys think about back-up plan such as a big AKIC BBQ, maybe at someone's place? I figured if people are already making arrangements for the time off then they should at least be guaranteed SOMETHING.

I like the idea of a backup/rain plan... I'll volunteer the shop for a AKIC bash if we get weathered out.

Nice! Would be glad to have your support! If it came down to that I figured the host could provide a grill, maybe someone could keep one handy that they haven't put away for winter, and then people could run to the store and grab what they want to have grilled.

I'll do my best to anticipate weather. At this point I'm thinking of sticking to the last weekend of September since that's usually more favorable weather patterns.

Why so late? Wouldn't scenery be better while things are still green?

"Mid-Summer Cruise 2013"? Generally it's later because people are busy all summer, especially for those that do outside work. Then there's autox. Weekends are always taken up, but if you get people to say goodbye to summer at the end of summer, there's usually a much bigger turn out.

Think about it: Why are our winter meets so much bigger?

Well in the past we've tried having meets and people are usually just too busy in the summer. During the winter we're all more idle and wanting to get out. There's just always a bigger turn out when it's not summer.

Count me in! I love this idea. I'm not going anywhere until mid September when I'll be in Florida... which still isn't set in stone amazingly/horrifically enough.
