After email dialog with Subaru, they advised that you measure the level 10 minutes after stopping on a level surface and the level should not be above full.

Confirming the level was 17mm over after 10 minutes took it back to the dealer who agreed it was high then corrected it on the spot then advised they have now implemented a policy of re-measuring after the oil change after 10 minutes. :-)

Going to the dealership again tomorrow for my third oil level check. My oil light came on just 700 miles after my last check and top off. Just one more check after this one and then hopefully they'll finally fix or replace my engine.

Sucks man, hopefully this will be enough for them to replace your engine

At least the service guy and the tech I've been dealing with during these checks have been really cool. They've been sympathetic, patient, genuinely concerned and just overall really great compared to the service person and tech I was originally dealing with when I first started coming to this dealership. Those guys were very dismissive and could seem to care less about helping me and fixing my car. It almost made me switch dealers.

Update: Just left the dealership. Down a quart of oil in just 800 miles this time around. Definitely getting worse.

One more check and hopefully SOA will be satisfied with the results of the tests and green light the dealership to replace my engine.

It's funny you mention that. While I haven't really noticed a lot of soot on the rear bumper, I found the back of the passenger side, rear bumper reflector to be speckled with this tacky, black gunk. The reflector is somewhat close to the tail pipe so I'm thinking that maybe the gunk is burnt oil being shot out the exhaust? I took out my reflectors to tint them and that's when I noticed the black junk.

Mine has a thin sheen of oily black soot that quickly forms on the rear.

.375 according to the printout.
Although my reading had it almost a half inch down. I dont think that I'll burn nearly enough. But at least its documented.

lol I feel bad for all you people. My Imp hasn't consumed a drop since day one. Of course now that I say that I'll probably go out to an oil slick in my driveway this morning.

Mind VWs not looking too good at the moment, at least burning too much oil isn't fatal.

This is my favorite part:

"Volkswagen had been criticised by the peak consumer body in Australia, the ACCC, and the Australian Automobile Association for beings too slow to react to customer concerns over a wide range of mechanical defects."

What? VW slow to react to customer concerns? I never would have guessed that VW is capable of such despicable behavior.

i liked this part

Quote:
The recall follows years of customer complaints that reached new levels in the past two weeks after the Victorian coroner's inquest into the 2011 death of a Volkswagen driver was announced, even though the findings were yet to be handed down and the car in that incident was not deemed to have suffered a mechanical fault.

Complaints highlighted in the past fortnight included engines that conked out, high oil use, and gearbox reliability issues. Several customers reported having their engines and/or gearboxes replaced while others complained about the $5000 to $10,000 expense of fixing these parts once the warranty had expired.

However Volkswagen is still yet to issue an official recall for vehicles that some customers claim decelerate suddenly. The company says anyone experiencing that fault or any others to contact their local Volkswagen dealer.

Yep. VW has long sucked. I quit buying them in the late 90's when power windows wouldnt work EVER and the dash rattles in my impreza are NOTHING compared to those VW's.

Anyone have this problem with 2013s? It seems like all the problems with oil, poor mpg, and everything else is only with the 2012s

Just a quick update. I had my fourth and (hopefully) last check for my oil consumption test today. Now I have to be patient and wait to hear back from the dealership once they get a response from SOA about the situation.

Honestly, if they tell me anything other than they're going to replace the short block, this car will be gone asap. Im done with the tests and all the BS. I'm done with all the visits to the dealership and that annoying low oil light always coming on!

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what they say.
