On a typical AutoX course, the 245/40 tire has slightly more performance potential, but unless you're nationally competitive or a top 10% driver, I don't think you'll see any difference in your lap times between the two sizes. Given that, I'd choose the size that's more readily available and costs less.

Yea, thanks for the advice. Sounds like bigger might not be a bad idea. And I ran BFG's for my second year now and really like them.

Luke,

Can you quantify beyond "very soon"?

I would have expected "very soon" to be less than 3 weeks, so any chance you can clear up confusion so expectations aren't out of line with the actual timeline?

the video peeps are finishing up their production stuff
the graph guys are graphing
the IT department is "coding" stuff
the legal department is checking the "legal" stuff

the long and short of it is that the full report should be available late next week

I started running Rivals before the first autocross of the year, end of March. Most sizes were not even out yet.

I drive about 2 hours to each autocross event I run. I have done it rain and shine. I have run through some pretty heavy rain and I have never had problem with running Rivals in the wet, on or off an autocross course. I see people here keep talking about terrible wet performance and wonder if they have ever actually run them? I was concerned about the same thing when I bought them. I went as far as looking for standing water to run through at 70MPH on the way to one autocross and could not upset my 08 STI. I was surprised, they handle pretty well in the wet.

I have no problem daily driving the Rivals.

I installed a set on my 2004 STI with OEM BBS wheels (7.5 inch wide). I chose the 245/40's...slightly outside of the recommended size range. I'm lean toward a wider tire is always better...

They work as advertised.

No negatives...and I drive these daily.

My last set of tires were Dunlap Z1's...17,000 miles on them-expectantly they got noise and harsh in the end.

I've run one autocross, which may be a fluke, but car got #1 of 87 cars including half a dozen trailer/race cars. The Dunlaps would place in the top 10% typically for comparison. Car is a mild stock STI.

I do like these because I can flip the tires on any corner...not directional.

Main reason I bought these is the rotation and GRM says these are the best.

I've been running the Nitto NT05's for about a year now, have about 14k on them and I'm not nice to tires lol, they have been great for grip, but they don't do well at all in the wet, other than that they have decent cold grip, and seem to handle heat well, theyve worn well too

BTW, 255/40r17 on the stock BBS wheels
