Default The Subaru Global Rally Cross Team

Ok so as I'm siting here watching this on tv, the Puma Subaru Rally Cross Team freaking sucks so bad. I mean what a joke! Dave Mirra is horrible, the Bucky Lasek guy is a 100% joke! He can't even keep up. I don't understand how these guys got these rides. Must be all about their popularity and their name, because it sure isn't because they can drive... Ok I'm done ranting.

I was thinking the same thing. Pretty poor representation.

As long as Mini or Subaru wins, I'll be happy.

Well Mini by Prodrive just pulled out the win!! These guys just wreck each other to win lol. When we Dirt Track race and you get intentionally spun out, there are fist fights. Hell these guys are constantly wrecking eachother

That's because money doesn't matter to these guys.

I never said it was about the money, I'm saying if I'm leading or hell even competing and someone just takes me out like that, me and him are gonna have some words. That's for sure

lol, you have a skateboarder and a bmxer driving. Of course they'll fail.

AS a skateboarder, and the Bucky Lasek Powell board being my first new board, I AM A FAN.

but, come on.

It makes sense deegan is decent, he has the racing back ground for decades.

Puma wasted a lot of money. Its comical

Fairly funny because they all have the skills to drive rally. It's a lot harder then it looks.

And since we are talking X-Games, instant Zero ****s given. X-Games isn't a real rally.

Good racecar drivers start at a really early age, usually with competitive go carts. This class of guys are fun to watch to the non trained eye/commoner because they wreck often and they are all over the place. Therefore you're average joe who doesn't know jack about rally enjoys it. These guys are all too old to compete in BMX and Skateboarding so they are new to the rally scene. Hopefully we will see some improvement over the next few years.

Rally has been in trouble since group b ended in 1986. The problem with traditional rally racing is that it is hard to cover, there aren't many arena style seating options like nascar. If you are a live spectator you may just watch one tight corner in a bend and thats it. (because the stages are large)

At least someone is trying, Rally racing has always been sort of niche market and not as popular as indy, nascar, or formula 1. I'm glad someone is trying to make it more spectator friendly. Even if it is just a watered down version. Let's face it, Rally is super popular overseas but it has never had a following that compares to other nations. At least they are trying.

GRC has brought more attention to rally in the USA and generated more interest than any other rally series has been able to. Yes, part of that is bringing in "celebrities" to drive. It's called marketing. It fosters interest for the sport even from non-car people who recognize the names.

If they were bringing in a bunch of Euros only who have been rallycrossing all their lives then Americans would've cared less and GRC wouldn't have lasted beyond a season.

I wouldn't say they have "zero car racing skills" or "of course they will fail". Mirra has gotten six podium finishes in Rally America including one 1st place and once won a bronze in X-Games beating drivers like L’Estage, a rally veteran who's been rallying his entire life. Bucky hasn't had much success in GRC yet but go read his racing bio and you'll see that he has a fairly extensive motorsports background.

Its good marketing, put all the dude bra's in STi to appeal to a whole new generation of kids that want to be like them.

Subaru could care less how they do, as long as kids are buying Subaru Flat bill hats that are 3 sizes to big and want an STi, mission accomplished

Kind of sucks

Lol. I hung my head in shame on that one.

On a brighter note a suby (Isachsen) finished 4th in the finals.

He also went up on two wheels and almost rolled it in the first turn. :yikes:

Rally in the US was nearly dead in the 2005ish timeframe after most of the factory efforts pulled out(Mitsu, Dodge, Hyundai, etc.) and before Block, Pastrami, and later Mirra joined the fray. Hate on those guys all you want to, but their names and the money they've brought into the sport saved rallying in the US. Without them, you wouldn't be able to hate on them while you watch them in the X-Games right now.

At the end of the day, Subaru's #1 goal is to sell cars. A bunch of D-list celebrities are going to bring in more spectators and thus expose the brand more than a bunch of talented guys from Europe that you've never heard of. While they're awesome drivers, the casual fans don't care about L'Estage or Higgins. They come to see Block, Mirra, etc.

Mirra def has potential to be a great driver one day. He seems to really love the sport, or atleast thats the way he portrays it on tv. Isachsen's a pretty good driver, he atleast represented Subi in the Finals. Coulda been worse, Block coulda won. lol
