Well to be honest, it just feels like a much more rounded package. My Impreza was an early production run car and had a few things I didnt like about it.
The XV somehow has better seats, at least better than my old ones. They're supposed to be the same seats but the new ones feel noticeably firmer.
It's also a lot quieter, other than the noise the tires make at 60mph+. Totally tolerable.
The gearing- it feels a little better. Somehow the shifter even has a firmer and more direct feel. On paper they seem like very similar cars, but driving tje XV just feels better to me.
I was really taken by surprise. I truly thought it would feel too much like the Impreza.
There are actually quite a few upgrades over the regular impreza, its much more than simply a lifted Impreza.
Also, I own a 6x12 trailer for yard tools/mowers. Its nice to know that adding a hitch and *occasionally* towing wont void the warranty.

I have a Crosstrek and my wife has a 2012 Impreza 5 door, I hate how noisy her car is compared to mine.

What did you pay in the difference to trade?

I noticed the opposite when I test drove the '13 Impreza and Crosstrek. Felt like the Impreza just had more stability in heavy cornering (it does), and more feedback to the driver. To each their own. There are some days I wish I had a Crosstrek, and others I'm happier I got the Impreza. You can't have it all I suppose...

I bottomed out on a marked road, and I LOVE Subaru's awd. So for me the XV is a much friendlier car to DD.
Its also got slightly better gearing imo.

As to how hosed I got on the trade- They said I was sooo good lookin I could just have the XV.
3-4k-ish... not too bad. My trade was less than perfect.

I just upgraded from a 2011 OBS to a 13 crosstrek. Much better car. I like it more than my high hp LGT I used to have. It's smooth. The interior is nice. Has better amenities. Better fuel Econ. The only thing my impreza had was it could handle a lot better than the crosstrek but that's it. This cross trek is the best Subaru I've owned. Plus I love the color I got!

I think the 2013 Impreza and Crosstrek are comparable. It seems a lot of people lauding the Crosstrek were coming from the 2012 Impreza, that had a few issues. I test drove both and noticed no difference, other than the handling. To me the Crosstrek felt bigger to for some reason, even though I know it isn't.

I dont think there are many folks who hated their 2012 Impreza and then upgraded to an XV.
Other than me, has anyone else done this?
I'd love to hear their thoughts...

I wonder if there are improvements between '12 and '13 impreza. A buddy has a '12 and I don't see some issues he talks about like seats, noises, cvt shifting issues. My '13 after 7000 miles started running and shifting in m mode much better. I actually enjoy driving in m mode somewhat. My complaint with that is I'm used to having paddles stationary and not with the wheel. I find it hard to shift in tighter corners. Other than that, it all seems very solid and reliable. Good cool air makes the power seem almost doubled vs hot days. Makes me question responses from my early posts about K&N filter being a viable option. I think it will help some, and I'm ordering one to try it.

On another note- as you can see, I'm basically the only employee at the company who drives a CAR. My redneck work brethren think the lifted look is more masculine. I dont really care about the looks, but it is a nice looking car, I must say. Looks a little more at home next to tue trucks, and probably has more offroad capability than some of them!

Haven't done it yet but I am considering this in a year or 2. I have a 12' sedan limited. Love the car but I'm closing in on a year and am already noticing that the extra cargo is going to be ideal.

I have yet to ever sit in an XV (partially due to the fact that every time I go to test drive one they are already sold!)Saleswoman also said instead of taking the Impreza 5 door I'd enjoy the XV once I get from under this loan and depreciation lol.

One question regarding insurance.. is the XV considered a "wagon" the same way the 5door is?

Its the same dimensions and cargo area as the impreza it got its body from.
If you need more space, go for the new Forester. More space, more HP, and better for long trips.

My XV is cheaper on insurance than my 2011 OBS was. I'm surprised there are none on the lot. There is a whole row of them at the dealership when I went to buy mine, but there was none in the orange color. I got lucky enough and got 1 of 4 available in my area. I assume there is a larger selection in the Pacific Northwest.

That's what I imagined it would be so don't feel bad. I too wanted an XV after first seeing it mainly for the higher ground clearance. The wheels I'm still unsure on, at least they look rugged.

To be quite honest, I didnt care much for the wheels when I bought it, but they are actually growing on me.
And folks are are always complimenting them.
I initially planned to find someone with gunmetal sport wheels who would want to trade, but I'm starting to like them. And they are much easier to keep clean than my 12's premium 16's.
I may just look for some other multi-spokes and have a spare set. Or an offroad set and a dd set.

Sorry, I'm in Florida!
But I'll try to dig up the link for you, someone on ebay has 2 of them for a very good price.
Unless someone local would want to meet up at the local tire shop, I'm pretty much stuck with the wheels for now. I'm too busy with home repairs to buy another set of wheels and tires outright at the moment. And they *are* growing on me a bit...

Just ran a quote quote with esurance.. and progressive. they both refer to the XV as a wagon, so yeah insurance should be on par with the hatch.

Well the Sub dealer in Waldorf is pretty small. There are bigger dealerships in VA and north MD, just haven't had a chance to get over there.

What about doing the XV rear bumper but without the arch cladding on a '12 Impreza Sport?

I had someone hit the rear quarter (minor damage, likely only paint) and wonder if I can work a deal with the shop to paint the XV bumper to match the DGM paint. I guess I can get the rear arch cladding, but would rather not have the arch cladding on the bumper. So, the question is; is the arch cladding on the bumper just taped on like the arch cladding on the quarter panel, or is it molded into the rear bumper?
