My neighbor's bike! A flawless, restored, better than new 1979 CB900F.

Looks good contrasting the WRX.

A great Alaska riding summer is underway.

The ride to Hatcher Pass was stunning. The weather just kept getting better as we went. Mike, I think I've seen your neighbor's bike in person at least once and if so, the pics can't do it justice! My bike is running great with the new gas tank and the Madstad windshield is proving to be worth every penny. I look forward to putting down a lot more miles this year!

Was pretty windy going down the arm. Hung out met some new folks. The ride home with the wind at our backs was really nice. Lots of wind surfers out there.

Really tough day for current world champion Jorge Lorenzo and Yamaha today at the Assen Moto gp. He fell at very high speed and broke his collarbone @230km/h or 143 mph.

He will miss the race on Saturday.

He had closed the points gap back up considerably the last few races. Check out this video. These guys have nerves of steel and gonads the size of beach balls.

Can't believe I'm posting this….Lorenzo had surgery in the wee hours of this morning to plate his collarbone in Spain and chartered a jet back to be present at the race in the Netherlands. He was cleared to ride by the race officials and will compete from his fastest practice lap. He rode fast enough on the first day of practice in the rain to qualify 12th for the race. Show time is at 5 am live. What a beast!

Man o man, what a race!

The Doctor is back IN!

Lorenzo….what more can be said…..legendary stuff. A true champion….limiting his losses on his worst day. The gap was 7 points, now only 9 as he finished one position behind the champ. Pretty amazing stuff. You could see how much pain he was in after the race. A mere 36 hours after surgery, no less. I am predicting he will win this championship.

I've had a broken collarbone before….they hurt like the dickens. I begged the doctors to plate mine but they wouldn't. They let the bone ends click together for a couple weeks. Eventually they soften and stick together. The way they join is the way they heal. A Callous forms and later on the bone will remodel itself.

The battle at the end with Crutchlow and Marquez was magnificent. I really wanted to see Cal beat the Honda. He was the pole sitter for the race and it has been 32 years since a British rider has won a GP.

I don't know how anyone watching today couldn't become a fan for life. Great race.

The website autoby.jp posted photos of the next Yamaha “crossplane” family member, a parallel-twin engine. Like the three-cylinder found in the FZ-09, the parallel-twin will not technically feature a crossplane crankshaft, but will be considered part of the family by Yamaha, presumably because, like the engine block featured in the FZ-09, it will be a derivative of the R1 and feature the same bore. In any event, the displacement of the twin is unknown at this point, but it might be reasonable to suspect that it is 2/3 the displacement of the FZ-09, or 565 cc.

Carrying this assumption a bit further, this should be a very potent, and compact twin. Just looking at the published horsepower and torque figures for the FZ-09, one could expect a twin with the same bore and stroke to put out more than 45 foot/pounds of torque and 70 horsepower at the crank. It could form the basis for a very entertaining, light, simple and inexpensive twin. Stay tuned

Default ADV Rider Down - Damn Moose

Motorcyclist injured in collision with moose on Parks Highway
Published: July 3, 2013

By Anchorage Daily News — Anchorage

A motorcycle collided with a moose on the Parks Highway Wednesday afternoon, seriously injuring the motorcycle rider, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The first 911 call about the crash came in just after 3:30 p.m.

Scott Smith, 44, of Georgia, was riding a BMW 800cc adventure bike northbound when a cow moose ran in front of him at Mile 147, near the Alaska Veterans Memorial, said trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen. Smith was third in a line of three motorcyclists from Georgia touring Alaska on bikes rented from a Palmer shop. He was wearing a helmet.

“The motorcycle hit the moose dead center in the body,” Ipsen said in an email. “The mama moose ran off the road and into the woods where she was found dead.”

The calf hasn’t been found.

Troopers called a charity to process and salvage the meat.

An air ambulance helicopter flew Smith to a hospital. He was conscious and talking at the scene.

The highway was closed for about one and a half hours.

Victim Identified in Fatal Taylor Highway Motorcycle Crash

By Chris Klint

Channel 2 News

1:21 PM AKDT, July 5, 2013

ANCHORAGE, Alaska

Alaska State Troopers say the Taylor Highway remains closed Friday night, after a Washington man died when his motorcycle veered across the center line and struck an oncoming recreational vehicle.

According to AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen, 63-year-old Roy Ovist of Lakewood, Wash. was declared dead at the scene of the crash, at roughly Mile 8.6 of the highway.

Troopers say Ovist was riding a 2006 BMW R1200RT sport touring cycle. He was headed north on the highway, about two miles away from a friend on another motorcycle with whom he was traveling, when he collided with a 40.5-foot-long motorhome driven by John A. Sharps Jr., 67, of Livingston, Texas.

Ipsen says the crash occurred on a straight stretch of the highway between two curves, with a reported break in the pavement. Evidence at the scene indicates that Ovist may have tried to brake in the moments before the two vehicles struck.

“He was riding north and something happened where he crossed the road and headed into the path of a motorhome,” Ipsen said. “There appears to be a long skid mark up to the point of impact.”

Medics from Tok reached the scene just after 11:20 a.m. but declared Ovist, who was wearing a helmet, dead after they arrived. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The Taylor Highway is expected to remain closed until 8 p.m. as troopers investigate the collision, with Department of Transportation crews placing a barricade at the highway’s junction with the Alaska Highway.

Ipsen says drivers on the highway are diverting to Chicken at Mile 66, the nearest stop for gas, food and lodging.

Ovist’s next of kin have been notified, and troopers say there are no indications that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

His name was Justin Ashley. https://www.facebook.com/grey925?fref=ts

He was a friend of my son and daughter attending South high school. I didn't know him that well but he was a good kid by all accounts.

Godspeed Justin.
