CD/DVD Appradio 3 (SPH-DA210) is shipping now and the non-drive model (SPH-DA110) is expected to start shipping later this week!

I kinda like what I'm hearing from everyone here with an AppRadio and an Android (using that APLiberator app). However, personally, I have an iphone 5. Is there any way to get that to work the same way? I'm kind of annoyed because I've always been an Android fan and have had several of them...until about a year ago. I got an iphone 5 as a "work" phone and simply sold my Android phone and use the iphone for work and personal use. It's great having a free phone and plan but I definitely miss Android when I hear about stuff like this!

On a somewhat different note, I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT headunit. I believe that the newer versions (Z130BT and Z140BT) have some of these App type things incorporated (I believe I heard you can run Netflix and some other stuff through them?). I've heard that I can actually somehow update the firmware of my Z120BT to make it a Z140BT? Anyone heard of this being done?

You could always get a Nexus 7 to drive ARLiberator and use your iPhone as a hotspot...

Unfortunately, I can't. Apparently the Verizon business plans that we're on are still using the old unlimited data (not the tiered data plans). As such, tethering is not free. It can be turned on but I think it's like $10 - $20 per month so they don't have it activated (as in I don't even have an option for it in my settings menu). I would need approval from my manager and our department head to have our IT department turn it on but I'm guessing they won't like my reasons for doing so! Believe me, I wish I could have it turned on as I have an Ipad 4 (that my Apple fanatic parents bought me for my birthday last year) that is wi-fi only so it would be really nice to be able to tether it.

Also, the Nexus 7 does not have HDMI out, so it would not work.

You can jailbrake your iphone and that will allow you to use more apps on screen. (youtube it)

If you really want to run ARLiberator, just buy a broken screen or bad ESN Galaxy, S2/S3 or Nexus (since these all seem to run well with ARL) and run it all the time. I just picked up an S2 that i will run as a dedicated device.

I have unlimited data, so I have Tasker set to turn on my wifi when it detects that my bluetooth has paird with my AR2 - bingo!

Go to the ARLiberator forums to see which Pioneer headunits work, there are a few that have AppRadio Mode...

crutchfield just confirmed earlier this week that the AppRadio 3 fits with the subaru impreza sports wagon 2013. wasn't surprised just wanted confirmation.

what is the difficulty level of installing this yourself and is there any DIY for any version of this device. also has any one used a module for the steering wheel buttons. the Axxess module seems to be pretty good, specially with the configurable options allowing.

As someone mentioned maybe it is best to find a store to check it out at. I'm trying to understand what I need the cable connection for and what I don't

When connecting the ebrake interrupt which wires do you connect for the antenna? I'm installing the App Radio 2 in a 2005 wrx.

Hi folks,

While my white Samsung S4 MHL adapter is on the way I thought that I would try my older Evo3D MHL adapter:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005F9W6DU

I have not rooted the phone, and have not attempted anything with ARLiberator.

The S4 connects to the appradio2 via Bluetooth without any problem, but after connecting the MHL adapter/USB/HDMI cabling, the Appradio android application verifies that the phone is connected (via Bluetooth I imagine) and then the phone screen sits on the image of the USB cable, never giving a usable "apps" icon on the Appradio itself.

Is there something else that I may be missing here, or can I just assume incompatibility with that old MHL adapter?

The white Samsung OEM MHL adapter for the Galaxy S4 arrived and works fine with the Appradio app from Pioneer. The connection was completely painless. Of course there is the limitation on the apps, potentially overcome with ARLiberator - unfortunately root is required for this and root is currently in flux with the latest update on the S4.

There are two simple tasks that I needed this radio to do simultaneously that it apparently isn't capable of doing:

I need to navigate while listening to the antenna tuned radio (without having to chew up $$$$data$$$$.

There absolutely must be a way for this simple thing to work. Either I'm missing something here, or this is one monumental blunder of head unit design.

I've seen most common on the relays but have read that they don't hold up too long for some reason. Any insight?

As it turns out, I was missing something, right from the manual of course. While in Appmode, you can double-press the HOME button on the AR2 and enable "mix mode" where you can in fact listen (and to some extend control) the radio. So ... sorry to the Pioneer engineers on that one, you get a for that.
