Maybe you guys still have a chance to get in? If you guys can get in, we would actually make a class in STU. Maybe I should send Sandy an email and see if I can get you two added.

She said we were in the top ten on the waitlist when I checked early this week, but at this point I won't be let down if we don't get in. Would be a fun event though!

I'm gonna ruin his chance at fame haha. 40ish people overall 4 guys beat him raw, CP, XP, KM, DM BUT he did beat an STC car that we rarely can catch at Grissom by 0.035 sec. That made him happy I'm sure. |

63 competitors... dick..
The four guys that out ran me raw time should have as well. But yea, it wasn't a heavily packed field of cars... the rain was fun though! I had pax by 4 seconds in the rain... again.. not a stacked field of cars by any means. Very fun course though! I was glad to see that they mixed things up a bit while still using the same general layout that Grissom courses always have. BFG's felt great overall.. in the rain and dry (3 wet runs and 2 completely dry after taking a long lunch break). |

Hell I feel good about taking the last trophy in Street Tire, so kudos to you. I can't even imagine how much trash I would be talking to my buddies if I placed 1st in PAX.

Newbie getting ready for STU. Have never autocrossed, plan on trying it out in the next few weeks. In the meantime getting the car prepared. Keep in mind this is also my daily.
2011 WRX 5dr 1. Engine: CNT catted dp, Cobb SF intake/box, grimmspeed heatshield (need to modify stock hs so I can put it back on), turbosmart kompact bpv (will replace with the stock bpv) 2. Exhaust: Magnaflow catback 3. Suspension: koni yellows, rce blacks, eibach f/r sways, kartboy f/r endlinks 4. Alignment: -2.4 f, -1.8 r (08-10 wrx front donor struts provide more front camber) 5. Wheels: 17x9 +45 Enkei rpf1 6: Tires: BFG rivals 245/40/17 7: Tune: TP stage 2 (plan to have custom STU tune done by TP) From everything that I've researched STU definitely seems to be the appropriate class for my car once I've made the few changes mentioned above. Anything that you guys would change? Seat time is definitely the priority, I'll be working on that. Would like to attend Evo phase one at some point once it's being held near Ohio again as well. |

Sounds like a pretty solid setup. Should be fun. But ya seat time would be your best investment. If you already have those mentioned parts on you vehicle, STU would be the correct class for you.

What he said. If you've never been, don't worry about doing any more mods other than the ones to make you STU legal. Focus on seat time and improve your driving. Once you've done that, then you can start playing with the car a bit.

several years worth honestly. One common (although understandable) issue rookies have is, in addition to learning how to drive they're continually messing with their cars and changing variables they (probably) don't fully understand. Having a solid baseline to work from is pretty cool ....wish I'd done that when I was new

You're funny.
And Doug, you know that as a car guy it's nearly impossible to leave the car alone! It's too much fun to try and make it faster to make up for your skillset! I would say that one should leave the car alone for the first year, then perhaps start modding more. Get that first year under your belt, get that experience, then start working on the car while continuing to work on the driver. I do wish I knew then what I know now and had left the car alone a bit, but then again I also had fun messing with it. And I still haven't listened to my own advice: I have yet to do an Evo School, but know I could gain a lot of it. Maybe next year (like I keep saying every year). |
