All turbocharged EJ20G/K/5/7 engines in the BC/BF and GC/GF chassis left the factory with side feed injectors..... MY89-98 EJ20G with grey top side feeds, MY97-98 EJ20K with yellow top side feeds (same shape/size as the grey tops) and MY99-00 EJ205/7 with yellow top side feeds but in a different shape/size. USDM side feeds only interchange with MY99-00 side feed fuel rails.

So some say to use EJ22 N/A rails, some sent me links to sites for aftermarket conversion kits. Anyone know if the 2.2 N/A rails will bolt up?

Definitely interested to see what you end up doing here. My 98 STI RA is landed in a few weeks. Trying to learn as much as possible about what parts from USDM are compatible with these JDM models.

Grimmspeed offers adapters that will work. It's what I did with my 850's

I also found those adapters, but they pull the injector tips higher out of the manifold. I wonder if this will have adverse effects for tuning?

I would also rather have a higher flowing fuel rail like the ones offered for v3/4 engines but be able to slide in the phase 2 injectors since I can't find 1000cc phase 1 injectors. The V3/4 rails don't seem to have the mounting bolts in the center, so maybe they aren't for the ej20k. The holes are further up, away from the injectors for the aftermarket rails while the ej20k mounting holes are almost centered between the injector bodies.

Sorry for the one year bump.

Great article to better understand what injectors you have and how to identify between rails and injectors. Although he is out of business, the info is good.

I have 3 or 4 jdm ej205 intakes with rails and the phase 2 550cc side feeds. I was going to use rails on my ej25d intake but they wont bolt up the same. I can try and get better pics tonight.

Yeah, I understand the injectors I have and it sucks. There is a 460cc phase 1 sidefeed but mine are already yellow and likely 440cc. I've searched Davey's site and there are a few options like converting to top feed but since he doesn't sell them and I can't find top feed adapters that rules out one option. It will also suck if I have to try and sell my 1000cc sidefeeds. Even though I haven't tried installing them, lots of people assume there could be damage because they aren't buying them from a vendor. I should have pulled an injector cap off my rail when I first received the new injectors to compare, but several people told me they were the same sidefeed size. Even the vendor told me they would fit when I told him they were yellow sidefeeds.
He asked for pics of my injectors today so I sent a few with side by side comparisons. Same electrical connector at least, but they aren't close enough IMO. I don't like the fact that the new injectors will be around .25" higher which pulls the tips further out of the manifold and will affect the spray pattern.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I heard for the EJ20G (v1/2) you can use USDM EJ18 rails which allows use of USDM STi yellowtop 550cc injectors? (for example in conjunction with a rob tune on an EJ20G)

any validity in this?

Not sure on the ej18, but I have an ej25d manifold and the injector tops are wide like the phase 2 sti sidefeeds, they also have the large square section on top. The injectors in the ej25d rail are red. It amazes me there are several fuel rail and injectors styles in such a short time period. It sucks I can't just swap the ej25d rail over to my ej20k manifold, the mounting holes are in different spots and the tubing is even routed differently. Its like they used the newer style injectors on the usdm engines of the same year range.

Is there an accurate source for the latency times of the jdm early injectors? I see different cc and latencies all over the place, and am trying to set my power fc to run well enough for daily driving with no boost. It idles perfectly with good afr on the current settings I set up, but will bog rich with barely any pedal input under any load. Takes forever to get up to the speed limit.

My previous injectors were the phase 1 style yellows, I've seen several sizes quoted from 380 on a uk site up to 480cc. I also need their latency at 14v because that is the voltage I will be using for the new injectors' latency.

I had my 99 JDM yellow top 550's flow tested at DW, I should have ponied up for the full testing which I believe included latency's. I'm using .86 and its working ok.

Thanks, but I think the 99s are phase 2 style side feeds. Mine are the first style with the long tip and single pintle nozzle. They may be the same flow rate, but no way to tell for sure. Most search results yield 440 or 480cc, but never any latency or dead time values. I've read the power fc has the latency values for the original injectors, but can't find the information anywhere. I would probably need the datalogit and/or fc edit software to get to them. The manual shows the data for the 99/00 ej207 injectors as 505cc with .76 latency. Sucks it only shows values for the next model up
