Default Subaru Warranty Work

I was hoping someone can help me out.

I have the typical throwout bearing noise issue on MY11 wrx which got replaced by a subaru dealership along with a new clutch and flywheel. The sound has since returned and when I took it to another subaru dealership to be examined, they said they cannot make any repairs because they can't warranty any work done by another dealership.

This doesn't make sense to me. They're subaru. Shouldn't matter which subaru it is. I have a subaru.. thats having issues.. thats under warranty. They should still acknowledge my issues.

Does this sound about right to anyone? Or is this something legitimate.

Any helps good.

They are right and wrong. I think they failed to explain everything.

They can not warranty repairs if it was due to installation errors caused by that other dealer. Remember Subaru paid that other dealer to make the repairs. They will not pay again for someone else to fix another techs screw up. You certainly wouldn't, so neither will SOA. That dealer understandably won't do it for free either.

Now with that said, if there is a defect in the part and it is not due to installation error, then they can warranty the repairs even if the part was replaced. That is why there is a parts warranty.

Dang.. thanks for the response. Totally makes sense. The 2nd dealer I took it to found that there was a missing bolt on the bell housing. Pretty sure it didnt make them feel any better about the work that was done.

I just wanted the 2nd dealer to check it out and maybe having a fresh new set of hands on the issue might solve the problem. I dont know if I'd want to have the original dealer do it all over again.

You can have the second dealer contact the first about having the first one pay the bill. I have done that before where we found an issue that was caused by another dealers technician and I took care of the rest for the customer.

Nice! Thanks for all the help. Good to know that that's an option/possibility. I'll definitely keep that in mind once I start talking to them again about having the work done.

That seems to be the most ideal situation for me right now.

Anyways thanks for the help and insight.

Contact SOA. They can explain the best but it should be covered regardless.

Thanks.. I've yet to call SOA to resolve a problem and hopefully I don't have to go that far. Usually, from my experience, Subarus always cool about taking care of issues that I have. But this has been the biggest. If it comes down to it... I guess I'll have to call SOA.

My only other dilemma is that I'm at 30k and they're saying my warranty will be up at
33k. So I'm in a little battle to get this all figured out and hopefully not go over 33k so they won't give me any reasons to not warranty the issue. I got the gold plus warranty up to 80k and thought that would help it be covered but I guess not. I guess this clutch and bearing stuff is only covered until 33k?

Anyways, thanks for the help guys. Keep it coming. The insights good.

He doesn't need to contact SOA as that has been explained to him already. He and the new dealer should be contacting the first one. OP have they looked further to see if any other installation errors have been made?

Your basic warranty is for 3 years or 36,000 miles which ever comes first based on the in service date of the vehicle. I have no idea how the dealer can tell you 33k. There isn't a single car manufacturer that uses 33k. You can have the service department look in warranty wizard and look up the throw out bearing. The program will tell them if the bearing is covered or not and what extended warranty plan it is covered under.

The dealer you are going to has hired inefficient service staff. When they write up your vehicle, they should look up and print out a vehicle inquiry. Not only does this tell them if you have open recalls but it also tells them you have an SAS Gold Plus plan too!!

Thanks Black!

All the new dealer found was that missing bolt on the bell housing. That's all they told me so I'm taking their word for it. They didn't even want to replace that bolt since they didn't do the warranty work. I will definitely be having the new dealer contact the first dealer.

The 33k might be my fault. Sorry. I know it was coming up soon though. Thanks for clearing that up. This warranty stuff is crazy. But at least that gives me a little bit more mileage time to figure all this stuff out.

Does having the Gold Plus mean if this happens again after the 3year/36k it'll still be warrantied?

It means that there is warranty coverage on certain mechanical items. This doesn't mean the car is covered bumper to bumper(we all knows Salesman/Finance Dept. will say this to help persuade you into buying the warranty).

I had an issue exactly like this with the warranty, bought mine and hour and 15 minute drive away...had to bring it back there to get some heat shield rattle killed, they half did it, and now the dealership 10 minutes away is saying they won't touch it. Although I cant really complain since heat shields aren't covered in the first place.
