Default Tuner in Northern California

If anybody lives anywhere from Auburn to Sacramento or in surrounding areas, I have to say I highly recommend Travis Barnes with Snail Performance and FW Motorsports in Rocklin CA.

I've had Travis tune my car a twice now, once for a basic stage 2 tune and another for some upgrades. He has done a fantastic job and is very knowledgeable and affordable.

If anybody would like his email for contacting him directly just PM me. He is a quick responder to email which I have to say I also appreciate.

Thumbs up Called FW Motorsports on whim this Saturday -

Called FW Motorsports on a whim this Saturday to see if they had any Cobb AP's available/in stock for my 2013 WRX. Little did I know it was Trav's cell!

He was a truly nice person to talk with and helped me in the right direction. I'll be reaching back out to him if I need anything engine management/tuning wise.

Actually picked the AP up from Maita Subaru shop, same day. The service guys there said they don't see any problems with cobb stage 1 on stock for warranty issues, just make sure to unmarry before bringing her in each time. They actually thought it would be "smart!"

Thanks be to good peeps! - Enjoy your vacay Travis -

Yeah Paul and Trav are very nice, informed, knowledgeable guys. I love the way my car feels after having my Stage 2 tune done by Travis B. Boost controller was a big improvement and he helped me install it one morning. A+++ service.

Cobbs off the shelf (ots) map is okay, but even getting a pro-tune in regards to Stage 1 will have a better feel and better fuel economy. The Access Port is a great place to start though. Super fun to monitor your stuff and great gains for the money and effort. Stage 2 is phenomenal. Get the Nvidia catted downpipe. I've read its CA legal somewhere, might be wrong... its not so bad of an install. You just have to tin-snip your turbo cooling shroud after you take it off to accommodate the different downpipe shape.. easily the most annoying part of it all.

Or keep the stock heat shield intact, buy the Cobb heat shield for $65 from RSD and if you ever go back to stock, you won't have a hacked up heat shield.

I called a local tuner here in Santa Rosa about smogging my car with my Invidia catted DP and he said forget it. It will not pass visual inspection because it is an emissions system that is modified from stock = automatic fail in California. I doubt it would pass the functional test either, but they won't waste their time once they see that it is aftermarket and doesn't have the required pre and post CATs.

Iv'e heard of plenty of stage 2 cars passing the sniffer with catted dp's however it's a automatic fail on the visual for any aftermarket dp in Ca if they choose to call u on it. I know y he has the fan on ur motor however I would not like a fan kicking back on my engine lol

You've really seen stage 2 pass smog? Did the folks tune down to stage 1 and leave the hi-flow dp on the car?

Hey I just moved to the area and looking for a tuner for my 04 FXT near San Ramon, Rocklin is probably a little too far. Anyone that will tune with a tactrix cable (what I have)

Also is there any dp other than stock that is CARB approved? I always lived in more lenient places before.
