So I'm thinking of doing this with vinyls, only with a lighter tint and no big thick black border. I know it's not everyone's style but I'm going for an OEM look that is a bit different.

plugged up the hole with a piece of plastic and some silicon...seems pretty strong...light looks great for $35. I'll get around to redoing the reverse lights one of these days lol

Anyone have information on where they get the paint? I've looked in a couple stores but I haven't seen any of the products mentioned in this thread.

Hey I used the same red paint as OP. And some clear coat gloss with UV protection. After 3 months it faded lots. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use? Thanks

I used Krylon Fuzion Clear coat with vht nightshades. My tails were sanded with 1500 grit before any paint was applied. Mine don't look faded yet. This pic is a comparison after a year, but it still basically looks the same:

If it's prepped right, and the clear coat is well applied, there should be little to no fading. I had 5-6 coats of clear coat. I sanded it with 1000 and 2000 grit, and then polished by hand with Turtle wax polishing compound. Finished it off with 3M Hand Glaze.

cianuro, nice job. Doing it right there. Lots of sanding before and after make it look more OEM than ricer DIY spray job.

Did mines last weekend and the last few coats of clear enamel make it look hazy. So pissed. Anyone know of a fix that I can do to get them clearer?

I just did this on my 06 and mine too looked a bit hazy after clear. I started with 1500 then moved to 2000 grit. I have turtle wax polishing compound at the moment so I just used that (I really can't recommend any but it worked fine) definitely cleared them up quite a bit though.

If I had a newer wagon, this would be one of the first things I would do. Looks great! Theres also a film you can put on them, kind of like a tint, but red. Both look really good and give it a better look.

I read this entire thread before doing mine, and this seems to be the best combo, no fading. Mine have been done for about 3mo and look perfect. I get compliments often.

One trick I found to get around that hazy look of the clear, if you don't want to wet sand like me, is to put on that last coat very heavy. Put it on as heavy as you can without getting runs. I did this after 4 regular coats.
